Post-match analysis

This was Manchester United's first victory against Brighton since 1982 and The Red Devil's performance on the south coast tonight was richly deserved. The result keeps  Solskjaer's side well and truly in the race for a Champions League spot.

Bruno Fernandes showed his magic with two skillful finishes and he was ultimately the difference on the night, as The Reds excelled in all departments. United's defence had a comfortable evening and were rarely called upon and when they were David De Gea was there to avert the danger.

Graham Potter's side never laid a glove on United and when they did in the second half, it was far too late.

Trossard impressed when coming off the bench at the start of the second half, but that was one of the only positives Potter could take from the match.

Brighton realistically need another four points to guarantee their Premier League survival and they'll hope to pick up three of those when they travel to struggling Norwich City next time out.

Survival not yet secure insists Potter

Albion sit three places and six points above the relegation zone with seven games to play, but Potter is adamant his side's survival is not yet secure, especially as three of their next four matches are against top 4 opposition.

Speaking to journalists at Brighton in his pre-match press conference, Potter said: "We’re still fighting, we still have work to do and we need points to stay in the division.

"This league is so tough because everyone has quality and good players so the margins can go with you or against you.

“Regardless of what anyone else does we know we have to keep going. We don’t think about how many points we’ll need to be safe, so we have to focus on the next game which is against one of the most form teams of the competition in Manchester United.”

Ole full of praise for Brighton boss

"I followed his progress through the league with Östersund in Scandinavia," Solskjaer explained.

"He moved there to get his coaching philosophy and experience and he ended up beating Arsenal with them in the Europa League in London.

"He had a fantastic impact on Swedish football there and you can see now he’s getting his team to play the way he wants them to play, so it’s going to be a game in which we have to perform really well to get points.”

12:212 days ago

Ole not underestimating Brighton

Speaking to journalists at MUTV, Solskjaer added: "You can see they’re a very well-coached team when you watch them, you see the patterns and how they work and what their thinking is.

"So we know this will be a difficult challenge and the last couple of trips down to the coast haven’t been the best for us, but we need to put that right and work to get three points.”

Solskjaer on Maguire adding more goals with his head (cont)

The Manchester United captain has netted three times for The Red Devils since joining in August 2019 from Leicester City, twice with his feet and once with his head.

However, Solskjaer believes he should be scoring more goals, particularly with his head.

It comes after Maguire's late strike in extra time against Norwich City at Carrow Road sealed The Reds' progression to the Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final where they will face Chelsea at Wembley.

Solskjaer added: "Tim Krul had a great save on Saturday from his header and we know that he’s a threat to anyone.

"I said it when we played Leicester last season it’s like he has a magnet on his head with the ball and we’re now getting used to him and his movement, with Bruno coming up with some good deliveries.

"And we know when Harry is in there then anything can happen.”

12:182 days ago

Solskjaer on the importance of Maguire

Speaking exclusively to MUTV, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about Maguire being a key influential figure in the team.

"I think his performances on the pitch say it all," Solskjaer explained.

"He’s become club captain, he’s a leader and he’s chipping in with goals, so I’m very happy with Harry.

"He’s a big lad and he gets better and better the more he plays."

Solskjaer praises Shaw and FA Cup Semi-Final victory

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised the form of Luke Shaw and believes the win against Norwich in the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup will spur his side onto victory.

He said: “Luke has had a good upturn in form. He’s playing some good football, let’s see if he starts this one.

“I think the buzz and the energy that the win and a semi-final place will give you will help us tomorrow night.”

18:333 days ago

Graham Potter refusing to think of points required

Brighton boss, Graham Potter insisted his side have not put a target on an overall point total and are therefore taking it one game at a time.

He said: “We don’t think about how many points we may or may not need at this stage to be safe.

“We’re playing one of the most in-form teams in the league, we’ll just keep trying to pick up points between now and the end of the season.”

He also praised his players for sticking together as a group.

“There’s been a good belief and spirit throughout the season,” Potter insisted.

“That’s not easy when you’re not winning. It says a lot about the group, and the environment we have here."

Manchester United: Team News

After making 8 changes for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup win over Norwich, Solskjaer virtually has a full complement of players to choose from.

Talking exclusively to MUTV, Solskjaer admitted that those who were involved in the quarter-final success at Carrow Road will be available for a starting berth against Brighton in the Premier League.

Angel Gomes, who is under contract until 1 July has yet to be called upon since the restart and Solskjaer admitted that a new contract would not likely be agreed.

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are the only unavailable players.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Team News

Speaking to the media at Brighton, Graham Potter admitted Tariq Lamptey, who had stitches following their stalemate with Leicester City at the King Power is "okay to play" tomorrow.

Potter also gave an update on Adam Webster, who was substituted off in the 24th minute for Shane Duffy, saying he “has made good progress” but is “touch and go for tomorrow.”

Long-term absentees Stevan Alzate and Jose Izqueirdo remain unavailable.

18:273 days ago

Another must-win for United

Manchester United must keep the pace with Wolves, who are refusing to wilt in the race for a Champions League after they recorded their third straight win since the restart last time out against rivals Aston Villa.

Champions League football is crucial for The Red Devils in order to attract the best players in the world next season.

Therefore, this is a must-win game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in order to, once again, narrow the gap to Chelsea and Leicester, who occupy third and fourth place respectively and also Nuno Espirito Santo's chasing Wolves side.

18:263 days ago

Chance to move further clear of relegation zone

Brighton have eased their relegation worries and are unbeaten since the restart of the Premier League.

In their first match, they recorded an impressive 2-1 win at home against Arsenal, which they then backed up with a goalless draw last time out against Leicester at the King Power.

The Seagulls currently have a six-point advantage from Bournemouth, who currently occupy the third and final relegation place and with the teams below them floundering for points, one more win would almost certainly guarantee their Premier League status for a fourth consecutive year.
