Full Time:Hull 2-1 Boro

Well, well, well.

After a blistering start and then a forgettable game in truth, Malik Wilks is the hero for the home side.

Brit Assombalonga scored a penalty early on to put Boro 0-1 up, but Herbie Kane scored a superb free kick to draw Hull level. Neither team looked good after that, but Boro had most of the chances. Hull rarely threatened, but right at the death, a hopeful ball forward was headed on by Jordy De Vjis. Malik Wilks was there to smash the ball home and leave Neil Warnock furious and Grant McCann over the moon. Hull win at the KCOM in league for the first time since December, and register only their second League win in 2020.

This shakes things up at the bottom of the Championship. Hull leave above Boro!

John Lupo will bring you the Match Report later on.

Ten minutes to kick off...

Both teams are still preparing for this massive clash. So much is at stake for both teams. If Hull City win tonight, they will leapfrog Boro - but if Boro win, they will put 5 points between themselves and the bottom three.
16:285 months ago

Just over 30 minutes to Kick Off...

With Huddersfield winning last night, both sides will be keen to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three. Middlesborough have started well under Warnock, and Hull leaked goals away at Birmingham. The Tigers have also struggled to score at home this season.
16:245 months ago

Last time out: Middlesborough

Neil Warnock's first game in charge saw them leave the Bet 365 stadium with all three points, beating Stoke 2-0 to boost their survival chances. With their second away game in five days, will Warnock's men return back to Teeside with a 100% record after two games in charge?
16:225 months ago

Last time out: Hull City

Despite racing into a 2-0 lead within 15 minutes, Hull City couldn't keep their lead away at Birmingham City on Saturday and ended up sharing the points with a 3-3 draw. Will Grant McCann have sorted out his side's defensive frailties for tonight's game?
16:215 months ago

Betting Odds!

Hull City are currently 12/5 to win tonight, and Middlesborough 11/10. The draw is 9/4.
16:205 months ago

Last Time out!

Earlier in the season, Middlesborough raced into a 2-0 lead against Hull City at the Riverside before a moment of madness from Marvin Johnson saw Boro reduced to 10 ten before half time. The introduction of Dan Batty in midfield saw Hull come back to 2-2 and take a point back to East Yorkshire.

Neil Warnock on the Hull game

Neil Warnock discussed the Hull City team his new club face tonight in a huge relegation clash.

"I mean they're all hard aren't they, but when you look at the table, they told me before I came in - Stoke City away, Hull away. Two massive games, and they are, but they're all massive."

"I don't think whether you are playing the top or the bottom of the league, you can get points. You can get points, and you can lose.

It's a matter of trying to get my lads ready for every game and getting the full out of them trying to get those 50 points.

The sooner we get those 50 points the better, it might be more this year looking at the table but it would be nice to get to 50."

Grant McCann on Middlesborough threat

"Middlesbrough had a good result at Stoke last time out. They looked organised. They looked strong, but we know what we’re up against. We know how Neil Warnock sets his teams up. Every manager has a different identity and style of play and there’s no right or wrong one. It will be a completely different game to what we would’ve faced against a Middlesbrough side managed by Jonathan Woodgate but we’re just looking forward to the game. The aim will be to put our game-plan into action and get the result we all want."

Warnock looking for leaders in his squad

Speaking ahead of his side's second away game in five days, Warnock was his usual self. He spoke of the need to have players he could count on as leaders in the relegation run-in.

“Are there any natural leaders here?" he asked. "Not that I have seen so far.

“We all like one or two nasty people, don’t we? Well, I do.

“It is important. I think Jonny (Howson) and George (Friend) would tell you they are good pros, but whether they are those dominant leaders we are talking about, I am not so sure.

“But they have got to be. Whether they like it or not, they have to be the vocal part because they are the experienced pros in the team.”

McCann ready for Warnock test

Grant McCann spoke of Middlesborough's visit to the KCOM in his Zoom Press Conference on Wednesday afternoon:

“We know what we’re up against,” said McCann. “They’ve had a really good result against Stoke in their first game. They looked organised and they looked strong.

“We know the way Neil sets his teams up and we’ve gone through that thoroughly.

“A new manager brings a different identity and everyone’s got their own style of play.

“It will be a completely different game to a Middlesbrough under Jonathan Woodgate but we’re looking forward to it.”

Middlesborough: Team News

Neil Warnock is unlikely to make too many alterations to his new Middlesbrough side after enjoying the perfect start to his reign at the weekend.

Boro won 2-0 away to Stoke City to stride clear of the Championship’s relegation zone and it would be a surprise if the bulk of that side did not line up against Hull City.

With one perfect away performance in the bag, it would be conceivable that Warnock will set his side out to defend solidly and try and strike on the break.

However, should he need them, Ryan Shotton, Marcus Tavernier and Lewis Wing are all available, having come on as substitutes against Stoke City at the weekend. Adam Clayton and Ravel Morrison were unused subs, giving him options going forward should he need them.

Hull City: Team News

Grant McCann reported no fresh injuries ahead of Hull City's home game with Middlesbrough, but will consider changes for the first of seven games inside 21 days. He will be keen to avoid injuries that have plagued Hull City for the second half of the season.

However, Mallik Wilks' involvement will depend upon City agreeing a deal with Barnsley to keep the winger at the KCOM Stadium and there was hope he can remain part of McCann's plans. McCann was coy at the weekend and there is still hope he will play some part.

McCann has no shortage of options should he forced into any late changes. Josh Bowler, Tom Eaves, Keane Lewis-Potter, George Honeyman and Kevin Stewart all came off the bench at St Andrew's, with McCann protecting some of his players' fitness levels. Jon Toral is also another option - the Spaniard was an unused substitute last weekend.

Two from two for Warnock?

After losing heavily at home to Swansea on the opening day of the season restart, Neil Warnock replaced the sacked Jonathan Woodgate in a move that certainly raised eyebrows on Teeside. However, the veteran manager had a perfect start at the weekend, winning 2-0 away to Stoke City. Can Warnock keep the run going and guide Boro to safety?

Hull looking to end winless run

After letting a 2-0 and then a 3-2 lead slip at the weekend away at Birmingham City, it could be a case of fourteenth time lucky for Grant McCann's side as they attempt to register three points in the league for the first time since New Year's Day. They will be buoyed by scoring more than one goal for the first time since Valentine's Day in their last game, but face a tough test in this one.

Basement Battle

This is a huge match at the bottom of the Championship for both clubs. Grant McCann and Neil Warnock will be desperate to pick up the points that would move them away from the relegation zone.
