FULL-TIME! Bournemouth 1-4 Newcastle

Bournemouth’s relegation woes pile up as they were thumped at home off Steve Bruce’s Newcastle by four goals to one.

Dwight Gayle opened the scoring after just a few minutes.

Sean Longstaff doubled Newcastle’s lead after Allan Saint-Maximin skinned Adam Smith to find the midfielder free in the box.

Saint-Maximin completed a hat-trick of assists in the second half, after finding Miguel Almiron with a through ball, which the Paraguayan finished emphatically to make it three.

Valentino Lazaro topped off the evening for the Magpies with a finish into the top-right corner.

Dan Gosling got a goal late on for the Cherries, but it did not mean anything in terms of the final result.

The win for the Magpies sends Newcastle up to 13th in the table on a comfortable 42 points.

Bournemouth drop to 19th in the table after this defeat and you feel it may take a miracle for Eddie Howe’s men to survive relegation this season.

A Boscombe blockbuster

The last time these two teams met at the Vitality Stadium was in March 2019, in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Newcastle took the lead through a stunning Salomon Rondon free-kick just before half-time.

Cherries striker Joshua King equalised from the penalty spot just a few minutes into the second half.

King must have thought he had won it for Bournemouth with a late goal, but former Cherries player Matt Ritchie thumped in a 94th minute equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Magpies will want to fly up the table

Fresh out of an FA Cup defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, Newcastle will be looking to return to winning ways against Eddie Howe's Bournemouth.

The Magpies remain unbeaten in the Premier League since the restart, recording a victory against Sheffield United and a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.

Newcastle are practically safe from relegation and are sitting comfortably on 39 points with seven games to go.

This is Newcastle's first away game prior to the pandemic pause, so it will be interesting to see whether the Magpies can keep their good form going on the road.

12:45a year ago

Cherries need to pick points up

Bournemouth find themselves fully invested in a relegation dogfight, and will be desperate to pick up a precious three points here against Newcastle.

The Cherries have been in torrid form since the Premier League restarted last month, with back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Wolves.

The south coast club currently reside in 18th place in the table, but only goal difference separates them from 17th placed West Ham.

If Eddie Howe can steer Bournemouth to victory tonight, it will go a long way towards their bid for a sixth successive season in the Premier League.
