It has been suggested Wigan face a 12 point deduction for their impending administration, which makes Wednesday night's clash against QPR a must-win game for the Latics.

Wigan come into the game in 14th place, having lost their previous game 3-0 to Brentford. Prior to the loss, the Latics had enjoyed an excellent run of form, winning six of their previous seven without conceding a single goal.

QPR had enjoyed a six game unbeaten run before the season was halted, but have struggled for consistency since the restart. Their three game loss streak was ended at the weekend, beating relegation threatened Middlesbrough 1-0.

Key Battle:

QPR frontman Jordan Hugill scored his side's winner last time out, and will be hoping for similar success on Wednesday night. The striker has notched 13 league goals so far this season.

By contrast, Wigan have struggled to find the net regularly throughout the EFL Championship season. Only Middlesbrough have scored fewer league goals than the Latics, who may be reliant on centre back Leon Balogun to keep the free-scoring Rangers forwards at bay.

Previous meeting:

The reverse fixture saw the sides meet back in August 2019, with QPR prevailing 3-1 at Loftus Road. An early Wigan goal was cancelled out by three second half strikes from Jordan Hugill, Nakhi Wells and Eberechi Eze to ensure Rangers took the three points.

Team News:

Wigan will be without three players for the match. Centre back Chey Dunkley has a broken leg, Joe Garner is suspended and Josh Windass is facing a spell on the treatment table.

QPR midfielder Charlie Owens remains their only notable absentee, with a long term injury.

Predicted Lineups:

Wigan (4-2-3-1): Marshall, Robinson, Balogun, Kipre, Byrne, Morsy, Williams, Naismith, Dowell, Jacobs, Moore.

QPR (3-4-2-1): Lumley, Cameron, Kakay, Barbet, Manning, Ball, Amos, Kane, Osayi-Samuel, Eze, Hugill.

Managers' Comments:

After the 3-0 defeat to Brentford, Wigan manager Paul Cook gave a statement of defiance, despite the club's perilous financial position:

"We've got a massive game with QPR on Wednesday at the DW and I guarantee the supporters, I give them my word, we will lift these players the best way we can and we will fight until someone tells us it's mathematically impossible that we can't stay in the league.

"At the minute there's a realistic chance that we can."

QPR boss Mark Warburton was in a reflective mood following his side's narrow victory over Middlesbrough, as Rangers sit comfortably in mid-table:

"We all know what the Championship is like.

"I've always said, you win three or four in a row and you can be knocking on the door (for promotion), but then you lose three or four in a row and suddenly you're getting shouts about relegation."
