Leicester City host Sheffield United on Thursday striving to rectify their disastrous showing at Bournemouth in what was a huge blow to their hopes of UEFA Champions League football.

The Foxes looked in charge at the Vitality Stadium following Jamie Vardy's opener but the relegation-threatened Cherries staged a memorable comeback to win 4-1. Following Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Southampton, Brendan Rodgers' men still occupy fourth but simply cannot afford anymore slip-ups.

Meanwhile, Chris Wilder's Blades sit just five points behind after their fantastic victory against Chelsea, with another victory in the East-Midlands keeping their dream of Champions League football firmly alive.

Key Battle

Despite having only scored six Premier League goals since his big-money move from Swansea City, albeit one of them coming against Leicester at Bramall Lane, Oli McBurnie has set the tone for Sheffield United's season. His physical, energy-sapping style of play has been instrumental in their season so far.

The Welshman has also been priceless since the Premier League's restart having netted against Tottenham Hotspur and been a constant threat against Chelsea last time out.

Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is going to have a tough evening attempting to keep a lid on the forward, especially without his regular partner, Caglar Soyuncu, alongside him after the Turk was sent off against Bournemouth.

Evans, like McBurnie, is a huge advocate of the physical side of the game so it should be a fascinating battle when these two come together.

What happened last time?

Having enjoyed a hugely impressive start to life back in the top-flight, the Blades were aiming to take another scalp as they hosted the Foxes at Bramall Lane for the first time ever in the Premier League.

With both teams undefeated after their first two competitive matches, it took until the 38th minute for the first blood to be drawn. James Maddison played an excellent through-ball for Sheffield Wednesday fan Vardy and he finished with aplomb at the near post past Dean Henderson

The hosts replied mid-way through the second period, with McBurnie heading home the equaliser. Leicester were not to be denied though as only eight minutes later substitute Harvey Barnes lashed in a thunderous half-volley from the edge of the box to claim the three points.

Team News

Brendan Rodgers still has a few significant absentees for the visit of the Blades.

Soyuncu's season is over having been handed a three-match ban for his red card on the South Coast last time out. He could be replaced by either Ryan Bennett or Wes Morgan in the heart of defence.

Maddison and Ben Chilwell are both still doubts for the match and will be subjected to late fitness tests. They could be joined by Marc Albrighton who was withdrawn in the first-half at the Vitality with a hip problem. Barnes could step into his position. Meanwhile, Daniel Amartey and Ricardo Pereira are both still missing.

In more positive news for the Blades, David McGoldrick will be hoping to keep up his hot streak having broken his Premier League duck last time out. John Fleck could also be included in the lineup after missing the last four games with a groin problem. Chris Basham may also be fine to play despite suffering a head injury against Chelsea.

However, the likes of Leon Clarke and Luke Freeman both remain absent.

Managers' Thoughts

Despite Leicester's poor run of form in recent weeks, and the Blades being talked up as potential favourites heading into the clash, Wilder is still aware of the immense task ahead.

Talking in his pre-match press conference, he said: "They have allowed themselves to have a couple of results they didn’t want because of their start to the season and their position.

"I have watched them and the game at the weekend against Bournemouth - one mistake gets punished and the boy gets sent off and they have to go and chase the game - the PL is unforgiving as we found out against them earlier with Maddison’s through ball and a fabulous finish from Vardy.

"They have an incredible target to fight for and we are expecting them to bring their best game - there will be no respite in their quality."

Elsewhere, Foxes boss Rodgers is adamant that his side's performance at Bournemouth is positive motivation for the rest of the season.

He said: “I have a great trust in the players. We don’t want that performance to affect the final three games. It will be the reverse. We’ll use it as a guide for us to grow.

"We fell well below the level we would have wanted. We’ve got no better moment than playing against Sheffield United, given how we played there. We played well in the first half and then came under pressure in the second and dealt well with that.”
