FT: Derby 1-3 Leeds

A much-improved second-half in terms of entertainment value with Leeds replying to the hosts going in front excellently.

They were powered on by the man with the captain's armband today, Hernandez, who bossed the midfield and was at the heart of all their offensive play today.

That's now four defeats in a row for Derby now, which is not the way they wanted to end the season.

HT: Derby 0-0 Leeds

It was a lively opening 20 minutes for Leeds, who seemed to have avoided any Championship hangover.

The visitors have controlled the half in general, however, the perfect final ball has evaded them so far.

Derby look like a team with nothing to play for at the moment.

Leeds have kept a clean sheet in their last three games, with Liam Cooper and Ben White continuing to develop an imperious partnership at the back.

Last meeting

This season, in the reverse fixture, the sides played out a stalemate 1-1 draw. An own-goal from Max Lowe placed Leeds into the lead, but a 91st-minute equaliser from Chris Martin sent Derby into raptures and breaking Leeds' hearts.

The dramatic conclusion at Elland Road was another chapter in a rivalry that developed throughout last season with 'Spygate'.

Mateusz Klich's importance

Klich has been key to Leeds promotion push since the restart:

The 30-year-old has been directly involved in five of Leeds’ last nine away goals in the Championship (two goals and three assists) – the Polish midfielder has also had a hand in two goals in his last two Championship appearances at Pride Park (one goal and one assist).

Derby's recent struggles

Derby's play-off hopes were dashed on Tuesday night as they were beaten 2-1 by a Cardiff side who currently occupy sixth place.

Derby have lost each of their last three games in the Championship, while they last suffered four consecutive defeats in the competition in November 2011 (a run of five).

'Bielsa's achievement not far off Klopp's'

Danny Mills, who was in the last Leeds side to play in the Premier League, believes that Bielsa guiding his former side back to the Premier League is almost on the same level as Klopp's achievements at Liverpool.

He told Sky Sports News: "Bringing Bielsa in was a big gamble. It was an expensive gamble and no one quite knew which way it would go.

"Everybody hoped he would do what he's done. It's been tremendous, to take a team from 13th in the table - effectively the same group of players, with a few loanees - to third, and now promotion. It's simply phenomenal.

"Everybody lauds Jurgen Klopp and how great he's been over the last four or five seasons. Bielsa's achievement is not far off that."

Cocu on Leeds

The Derby manager said his side have gotten over the disappointment of the Cardiff defeat and want to end the season on a high.

He said: "It will not be an easy game, they have a lot to play for, and so we have to be ready.

"The mood is better. We needed a couple of days to straighten our backs (after the defeat by Cardiff) because the play-offs are out of reach for us.

"There was a big disappointment for everybody. Now we have started to focus on the game on Sunday."

Leeds: Team News

Defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips is struggling with a knee injury and will miss Leeds' final two games, with Ben White potentially filling in at the holding midfield position.

Kiko Casilla is back available after serving his suspension but is unlikely to start ahead of Illan Meslier for the last two games.

At the opposite end of the field, Mateusz Klich has been directly involved in five of Leeds' last nine away goals in the Championship and is certain to start this one.

Derby: Team News

Martyn Waghorn has completed his suspension and will likely lead the line ahead of Chris Martin this weekend.

One other change is on the cards for the hosts with right-back Jayden Bogle set to return and replace Max Lowe in the starting XI.

Cocu also said in his pre-match press conference that Duane Holmes has returned to training and could feature on Sunday.

Can Leeds cap off historic weekend with a win?

Brentford's 1-0 defeat to Stoke means Leeds have been confirmed as Champions, so they will hope to round off a memorable weekend with a win against Derby. The Rams most notably beat Leeds in the play-offs last season, so revenge is on the cards for the Whites if they need extra motivation with their fate already decided.
10:464 months ago

Will next year be the Rams' year?

At one point during this restart period, it looked like Phillip Cocu's side would sneak into the play-offs, winning three and drawing one in their first four games back.

However, three straight defeats, all to teams currently in the top six, has left Derby six points off the Cardiff City in sixth with just two games left.

Despite this, overall it has been a decent debut season for Cocu at the helm, with the emergence of young talent such as Louie Sibley and Jason Knight a particularly encouraging sign for next season.

Leeds promoted

Despite no fans being present, this game will be a ceremonious occasion for the visitors, Leeds, whose promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Friday.

Their closest competitors in the league table West Bromwich Albion lost 2-1 away at Huddersfield Town, which confirmed Leeds' return to the top division after 16 years away.
