Women's Super League title holders Chelsea have announced the signing of 22-year-old London-born Canada international Jessie Fleming.

After finishing her time at UCLA with the Bruins and competing in the NCAA, Fleming will now make the move back to England to play for Emma Hayes' Chelsea.

She is the youngest player to ever play for Canada, making her debut at 15, and has since featured in over 70 games for her country. At last summer's world cup in France, she played in every minute of every game.

Fleming's new contract will see her play at Kingsmeadow until the end of the 2022/23 season.

With Melanie Leupolz and Niamh Charles having already joined, Fleming is Chelsea's third signing of the summer.

Really excited about the environment

Speaking to chelseafc.com when her transfer was announced, Fleming spoke of her excitement to start playing in the WSL for the blues:

‘I knew I really wanted to play in the WSL, I think the league is doing really well right now and there is a ton of fantastic players in the league so that really excited me.

‘For Chelsea it was the players here and I wanted to be in a challenging environment. Having conversations with Emma [Hayes] and learning a bit more about the team, I was just really excited about the environment and what it has to offer.’

'One of the top young players'

When interviewed about the signing of Fleming by the Chelsea FC website, head coach Emma Hayes said that the club were 'over the moon' to recruit her:

‘Jessie is one of the top young players in the world, so for us to beat a lot of other clubs signatures for her is a testament to the work that has been done here for a number of years.

"She chose Chelsea, this was her priority, her first choice and we were over the moon to get her.’
