Manchester United have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Europa League as they beat LASK Linz 2-1 on the night but were victorious 7-1 on aggregate.

For LASK, Phillip Wiesinger got the entertainment underway with a fine strike from outside the box. His effort was struck first-time and curled past Sergio Romero

United were quick to equalise as Jesse Lingard got his second goal in two games with a calm finish past Austrian goalkeeper, Alexander Schlager.

Anthony Martial then scored the winner late on with a smooth finish for his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions.

Story of the game

It was evident as to which team came into this match with a five goal advantage with United looking lousy and sloppy in the opening ten minutes. LASK almost took the lead when their strike from a corner struck the bar and had a dangerous spell in and around United's box.

Marko Raguz was next to take aim at Romero's goal, his shot from outside the box was comfortably saved.

The majority of possession in the first-half belonged to United, however, the goal-threatening attempts came from the Austrian side.

If United were able to put a cross in without a LASK defender blocking it, they would have been two up at half-time. A quick counter saw Lingard and Daniel James link up, but James could not find Odion Ighalo who was waiting to tap it in.

Early in the second-half Brandon Williams slipped a ball across the six-yard-box and a sliding Lingard narrowly failed to get his foot on it.

Wiesinger then put the away side ahead in the 55th minute with a beautifully struck ball which beat Romero in the top-right corner.

United were quick to respond to the Austrian side when Lingard's cool finish equalised and put them 6-1 up on aggregate.

Teden Mengi made his professional debut for the club as he came on with under 10 minutes to play.

Martial came on as a substitute with little time to play but he still managed to get on the score-sheet. His goal took him above his team-mate Marcus Rashford in the goals department for the season.
