Gillingham have completed the signing of Arsenal attacker Trae Coyle on a season-long loan deal.

Coyle, 19, follows Gunners teammate Zech Medley to Priestifeld and has joined up with the squad ahead of their recently confirmed friendly matches - both 45 minutes long - at Colchester United on Saturday.

The deal

After frequent discussions between Gills boss Steve Evans and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, Coyle joins the Gills on loan for the 2020/21 season.

He becomes the second loanee from Arsenal to join Gillingham following the transfer of Zech Medley earlier this week, and boosts the Gills' attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Coyle’s record

Coyle can play out wide, in attacking midfield or as a central striker and was nominated for the Golden Boy award earlier this year.

He has been capped at England youth level and was a regular last season for Arsenal’s under 23 team before signing his first professional contract in June.

He is yet to make a competitive senior first team appearance, but that will change this season with the Gills.

Reaction

Gillingham manager Evans told the club website: “Trae is a very exciting young talent and he is ready to further his football education.

“He is very highly thought of at Arsenal and his performances have made him a sought after loan player.

“Trae has a lot to learn, his development we are entrusted with but, in reality, his attitude and work rate will determine his success at League One level because he is a very very talented boy. He had a vast choice of clubs here in England, Holland and Germany so we are delighted to get the lad here."

Coyle himself added: “I am delighted to be here - it is a big step for me. I am getting to the age where I need to play men's football and I think this is a great place for me to have my first spell.

"I am very excited, I can't wait to get started. I'm a creative player who likes to make chances and get on the ball."
