League One side Northampton Town have announced the signing of their new central defender Fraser Horsfall on a two-year contract.

Who is he?

The 23-year-old Yorkshireman came through the ranks at his hometown club Huddersfield Town, joining their youth set up in 2004. He stayed at the club until 2017 when he left in search of first team football.

Once promoted to the Terriers senior ranks, Horsfall had loans at Trafford, Stalybridge Celtic, Salford City, Gateshead, and Kidderminster Harriers. During those loan spells he made a total of 25 appearances, scoring three times.

After a successful loan spell with National League North side Kidderminster Harriers, he then signed for them permenantly in 2017. During his time in Worcestershire, Horsfall made 60 appearances and scored five times for the non league side.

After attracting interest from EFL clubs, Horsfall got the move to League Two side, Macclesfield Town in 2019. During the 2019 season the young defender made 26 league appearances for the Silkmen

Curle believes signing  is on an ‘upward curve’

Following his move to the Cobblers, his new boss Keith Curle said on the Northampton website that Horsfall is still learning. He commented, "Fraser is a player who is learning and developing the art of defending and is someone we have identified as being on an upward curve."

When talking about the type of defender Horsfall is, Curle said:

"He is competitive, aggressive and he likes defending. He has taken accountability and responsibility for his own development and his own career and I like that strength of mind and that determination." The Cobblers boss added "I think he is a great fit for us and we are a great fit for him at this stage of his career."

Horsfall joins a Northampton Town side who were promoted to League One through the League Two play-offs in June 2020.

Northampton have said the signing is awaiting EFL approval which should be completed over the weekend.
