• Differing transfer ethos

Nottingham Forest’s transfer policy has drastically changed as the years have passed by. From working on the bread line in a transfer embargo, to spending a club-record fee on overseas talent.

Sabri Lamouchi spent his first summer on Trentside analysing foreign players and was successful with his signings, bringing in a handful of effective fan favourites, such as Brice Samba, Tiago Silva, Samba Sow and Yuri Ribeiro.

Although there’s still a considerable amount of time for clubs to complete their business before the 12th September start of the 2020/21 campaign, the Frenchman is seemingly adopting a different style this window.

Thus far, Forest have added former loanee Jack Colback and Tyler Blackett to their ranks, and last night’s signing of Taylor is the club’s third piece of business. Colback was welcomed with open arms by fans who loved the midfielder from his two impressive loan spells at the club and Blackett adds further Championship experience and depth to Forest’s defensive line.

  • Will Taylor give Forest a new dynamic?

The Montserrat international joins to make it a hat-trick of free agent deals for Forest and looks an astute signing for the Reds.

Taylor was plagued with injury last campaign but was very impressive when he was playing, under Lee Bowyer at Charlton Athletic. The 30-year-old enjoyed an 11 goal return from 17 starts in his debut season in the Sky Bet Championship and he’ll only be keen to better them numbers at the City Ground.

Alongside his goalscoring exploits, Taylor is also a hard worker and covers a lot of ground, both in the final third and dropping slightly deeper at stages in matches.

Lewis Grabban is very much a hold-up striker and gets into fantastic areas at the right time and combining both his and Taylor’s styles could be a joy to behold for the Forest faithful next season – if they hit the ground running.

  • Stick or twist?

Taylor was wanted by a host of clubs but chose to join Forest despite offers from others. Which opposes the question, what minutes was he promised when he signed his three year contract?

Lamouchi has been persistent all season long in playing a one striker system. Grabban started 43 of the 46 Championship matches last term, with an impressive return of 20 goals.

Fans will now be keen to see if Lamouchi adopts a different style to accommodate both Grabban and Taylor, to ensure he doesn’t have any of his talented frontman warming the bench.
