Liverpool concluded their pre-season trip in Austria with a 2-2 draw against domestic champions Red Bull Salzburg.

The friendly saw doubles from highly-rated young strikers in either half, with Rhian Brewster cancelling out Patson Daka's efforts.

The Reds will now return to Merseyside and switch focus to Saturday's Community Shield.

After the match, manager Jurgen Klopp offered his verdict to liverpoolfc.com.

Here are the headlines:

On a leggy performance...

"It obviously didn't look really good for big parts of the game, I have to admit that. I should or could have known because I know obviously what we did in training."

In the first half in particular, much of Liverpool's team looked a little off the pace against a Salzburg side who already had four friendlies under their belt.

They struggled to cope with their opponents' intensity out of the blocks, Fabinho robbed on the edge of his own box before Daka slotted home just three minutes in.

Indeed, they were fortunate not to fall further behind after continuing to cede possession in dangerous territory.

Profligate finishing from the Reds' established front three, meanwhile, saw a series of well-worked attacks come to nothing.

These lapses at both ends made it a frustrating watch, friendly or otherwise, for an hour or so but Klopp did point out that his side were understandably fatigued after a near-relentless training schedule.

On Rhian Brewster

"He has to be more involved in the game when he's on the pitch, but I have to say in the decisive moments he's 100 percent there."

Fresh off the back of an eye-catching loan spell at Swansea, Brewster appears to be growing more accomplished in front of goal by the game.

Here, he brought the precision his elders lacked, sidefooting high into the net following a neat interchange before a measured lob into a deserted net from distance.

It remains to be seen whether Brewster will be sent out on loan once again, perhaps at Premier League level this time, or whether his path to the Liverpool first team will be accelerated.

But though Klopp acknowledges the 20-year-old's fatal finishing, it seems Brewster will have to up his game outside the penalty area before he is considered ready to challenge.

Roberto Firmino, of course, is globally renowned for his link-up play and space-creating movement.

On the looming Community Shield

"We should play better than today and then I think we will have a chance; [in fact] we will play better than today, so that's all good."

Liverpool have a nearly fortnight's 'headstart' over Arsenal, who only returned to training last weekend after winning the season-ending FA Cup.

But that doesn't necessarily grant them room for the kind of errors they made here.

Indeed, the Reds effectively handed victory to Arsenal when they last met in July by switching off as they played out from the back.

Nonetheless, Klopp is certain his side will be back to something resembling their best for the Wembley fixture.

He views it not merely as the culmination of their pre-season, but as the 'first opportunity' for yet more silverware.

Liverpool's title defence will begin two weeks further down the line against second-tier champions Leeds United.
