Burnley continued their preparations for the new season with a goalless draw in a friendly against local rivals Preston North End

With Nick Pope and Bailey Peacock-Farrell both away on international duty, Dyche handed a debut to summer singing Will Norris.

James TarkowskiBen Mee and Kevin Long were also absent which allowed for Bobby Thomas and Jimmy Dunne to forge a youthful partnership in central defence.

Other than that, the Clarets were able to field a very strong eleven, featuring the likes of Dwight McNeil, Jay Rodriguez and the fit-again Charlie Taylor

Fans would have been happy to see Johann Berg Gudmundsson's inclusion in the starting eleven. The Icelander is coming off the back of another injury ravaged campaign and will be keen to bolster his fitness ahead of the new season.

There was very little coverage of the match, with many reporters unable to attend, but LancsLive managed to note down some of the key details.

Preston started brightly without creating anything too clear-cut.

Invariably, it was Burnley who had the first shot on target. McNeil forced Connor Ripley into a smart save after Gudmundsson's pull-back.

For North End, former Manchester City and Celtic winger Scott Sinclair was proving to be a handful.

The tricky attacker forced Thomas into a good block and also rattled the crossbar just before the interval.

Billy Bodin also forced Norris into action as the Championship outfit sought an upset.

Norris was replaced by Lukas Jensen in Dyche's only half-time alteration.

It didn't take too long for Dyche to wield the changes, though, and the impressive youth product Lewis Richardson was given some minutes at left-midfield.

The teenager ordinarily plays as a forward but would have been grateful at the opportunity to make the field with the first-team.

All in all, the derby was a successful fitness builder for all involved. Alex Neil will be hoping that his players can build from this positive result while Dyche will be happy that his young defenders earned a clean sheet.
