Burton Albion host Premier League side Aston Villa in a Midlands derby in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Burton got here after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Accrington Stanley after drawing 1-1 after 90 mins.

This is Villa's first game of the season; as their fixture, last weekend was postponed due to Manchester City's European involvement in August.

Team news

Aston Villa have no real injury concerns going into this game.

Burton will be without the suspended John-Joe O'Toole who was sent off on Saturday against Fleetwood. Summer signing Charlie Venham missed the game at the weekend but should be in contention for the Villains visit. Reece Hutchinson is a fitness doubt. Lucas Akins and Ryan Edwards may be rested as they only returned to the side following injury against Fleetwood.

Predicted line-ups

Burton XI: Garratt; Eardley, Brayford, Anderson, Wallace; Akins, Powell, Bostwick, Quinn, Lawless; Hemmings

Villa XI: Steer; Guilbert, Engels, Hause, Taylor; Nakamba, Jacob Ramsey, McGinn; Jota, Watkins, El Ghazi

Ones to Watch

Kyle Hemmings might not be the name you would think would be one to watch. The 36-year-old has been gagging for a move to his home town club for years, and now that he has finally got his move back home he will want to show what the Brewers have been missing out on.

Jacob Ramsey could be Villa's breakout star this season. After winning Villa 18/19 Young Player of the Season, things have been quiet for Ramsey. However, after impressing in pre-season against Arsenal, a good run in the League Cup could kick-start Ramsey's Villa career.

Previous Meetings

Aston Villa and Burton Albion have met each other five times in history. Villa have won three of those encounters. Burton won the only Carabao Cup meeting between these two sides in August 2018 with a 1-0 win.

Where To Watch

Both sets of fans can watch this game on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football from 7:30 pm GMT.

What The Managers Have To Say

Burton manager Jake Buxton is excited to face Villa under the Sky cameras this evening and had this to say to the official Burton Albion Website: "We fully expect Villa to put a strong side out and we are preparing for their strongest 11. If it changes and they don’t, I will be encouraging our lads not to take them lightly and importantly to still play our brand of football, make a good game of it and take it to Villa as well.

“It’s about creating our own momentum and making sure we are ready for the challenge.”

Aston Villa boss, Dean Smith, had this to say on tonight's fixture: "As I’ve said many times before, it’s a competition that we take seriously, we got to the final last season and got beat narrowly by Manchester City,”

“Aston Villa have got a great tradition in this competition, and we’ll be going all-out to continue that.”
