Steve Bruce has added real quality to Newcastle United this summer which has given them much needed strength in depth but he is struggling to offload several players.
It has been a problem for years now where Newcastle have signed players and they have offered nothing to force themselves into the first team.
If the Magpies are to improve their squad further this summer Bruce knows he has to trim the squad and wage bill to enable the club to bring fresh faces in.
Bruce has spoken openly in his press conferences about wanting to find 'new homes' for certain players and there have been mainstays in his statements, but which four players need a move away to save their careers and help the club move forward?
Rolando Aarons
The Jamaican international who burst on the scene under Alan Pardew with his superb cameo appearance against Crystal Palace in August 2014 getting a goal and an assist.
However, a hamstring injury picked up while away with England's U20s was the beginning of a sad demise for Aarons' career as he was out for six weeks before returning to score that memorable gaol away to Manchester City in the League Cup.
A month later he suffered another hamstring injury which highlights how his career has stagnated so much. Since 2014 he has made just 22 appearances for Newcastle only managing four goals, with one coming on his debut.
Having experienced five loan spells during his career and none of them have offered assurances to potential clubs that he can consistently produce.
After offering so much talent and potential as a youngster off-field problems and injury issues have held Aarons back and a move away is desperately needed for both parties, especially the player. After unsuccessful loan spells at Hellas Verona, Slovan Liberec before slightly improved performances at Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and Motherwell have proved there is a player inside Aarons if he can realise his potential.
The pacey winger is 25 next month so can not afford to waste away his prime years if he wants to make a career at a high standard, potentially a move to League One could be what's needed to give Aarons what he needs and feel loved once again.
Achraf Lazaar
Lazaar has been one of the strangest signings in recent years as he seemed to have potential on the pitch with the ability to get forward and deliver balls into the area. However, since 2016 he has made 10 appearances for the Magpies.
He has been viewed as too weak, lazy and severe lack of concentration which has been evident when played as a left-back. He does not always follow his man and gets beaten rather easily, but does possess good ability going forward.
He has been shipped out on loan three times, twice to Serie B and once to the Championship alongside Aarons when current Magpies manager Bruce was at the helm. Managing just 22 appearances in Italy and England's second division indicates he is and was never up to the standard of the Premier League.
The Moroccan is understood to be earning around £10,000 a week on Tyneside without making a first-team league appearance since the 2016/17 season. It is players like Lazaar who are not being moved on because they have such high wage demands which are restraining Bruce back in the transfer market.
Henri Saivet
Saivet arrived amidst a relegation battle under Steve McClaren, not an ideal situation for someone to join a foreign club and have very little time to adapt.
That was the reality for Saivet however and he has never fully established himself despite being hailed as a technically gifted player and impressing constantly in training. He just does not have the physicality nor stamina to dominate a midfield for 90 minutes.
Having been handed just 232 minutes of first-team action since signing for the club in January 2016. Tifo Football alongside The Athletic did a video on Saivet and how he has been one of the most expensive signings in the club's history as he has cost them one million pounds per appearance.
He was only awarded a first-team appearance in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez when injuries forced his hand and he produced a memorable performance. Giving the ball to Marko Arnautovic to put the Hammers ahead before bending a 25-yard free-kick into the bottom corner minutes later.
He did nothing amazing or wrong in that game, which is why Benitez regularly banished him to train with the reserves as he offered nothing to a game and could not control or dictate the pace of a match.
It seems likely he will end up back in France or Turkey (where he has had two loan spells in recent years with Sivasspor and Bursaspor respectively)) but it does seem that now at 29-years old he has wasted his best years on Newcastle's training pitch.
Christian Atsu
Having been brought in initially on loan during the Championship winning season in which Atsu featured 35 times, scoring five goals which included a memorable and key chipped free-kick away to Cardiff City.
The Ghanian has made 107 appearances for Newcastle, making it his longest period at any club with his next best being 27 appearances for Rio Ave in the 2011/12 season.
He has been a loyal servant for the club having been a mainstay and a great player to bring off the bench under both Benitez and Bruce. Having been signed for £6.5 million, the Magpies have more than got their money worth out of the former Chelsea winger.
Bruce knows what a great professional Atsu is and what he has done for the club from his performances on the pitch as well as organising charity events within the club to help children in Ghana does show what type of person he is and why he is such a liked person in the dressing room.
Atsu has been linked with a move North of the border to Celtic which may be a good switch for him as it can help him find his confidence back and go to a top team in their division where he will be loved if he performs to the standard he is capable of.
