s After missing gameweek one due to an extended pre-season, Manchester City finally kick off their 2020/21 season this evening with a tricky trip to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, with positive coronavirus cases, injuries and rumoured departures, Pep Guardiola's selection for his season opener could be an interesting one.

VAVEL UK Manchester City Editor, Josh Lees predicts how he thinks the Blues will line-up tonight.

GK - Ederson

Who else? The City shot-stopper heads into the season on the back of claiming last term's golden glove award with 15 clean sheets, and there is no doubt he'll be hoping to carry on where he left off this campaign. However, the Brazilian had a night to forget when he last visited Molineux after he was sent off after 12 minutes, so he will be most definitely hoping to put things right in this one.

RB - Kyle Walker

Another relatively simple one after Walker announced himself as one of the Blues' most important players last campaign, proving an ever present in what was often an ever-changing City backline.

RCB - Fernandinho

With Aymeric Laporte ruled out due to self-isolation protocol and Eric Garcia rumoured to be forcing a move away from the Etihad, one man who will most probably have to step back into the central defensive role is Fernandinho. The Brazilian was announced as the club's first team captain yesterday so could well kick off his captaincy tenure at the heart of the Blues' backline tonight.

Partnering the City stalwart will no doubt be new kid on the block, Ake. As mentioned Guardiola's usual left-sided centre-back, Laporte is unavailable so it will be no surprise to see the new man step in for his City debut at Molineux.

LB - Joao Cancelo

After the Blues struggled to consolidate a regular left-back last campaign, one man who featured towards the end of the season was Cancelo. Despite traditionally being a right-back, the Portuguese international impressed on the left, meaning he could well have kept his place ahead of the new season.

CDM - Rodrigo

With usual defensive-midfielder, Fernandinho slotting in at the back last season, Rodri was the man to fill in, in the middle of the park and it is more than likely that this will be the case at Molineux this evening.

CAM - Kevin De Bruyne

Along with Ederson, De Bruyne is without doubt one of the first names on the team sheet for Guardiola. After setting the Premier League alight last season with 13 goals 20 assists (joint record) and collected both the PFA Players' Player and Premier League Player of the Year award the Belgian will be hoping he can do it all again in 2020/21.

CAM - Phil Foden

After asserting himself as regular starting for the Blues at the end of the 2019/20 season, the youngster will be hoping he can remain a key part of Guardiola's plans and continue his impressive form at the back end of the last campaign into this one.

RW - Riyad Mahrez

The Algerian enjoyed his best season to date in a City shirt last term, proving a key member of City's frightening attack, and after being declared fit to play after recently recovering from coronavirus it would be a shock not to see him line-up in this one.

LW - Raheem Sterling

One man who did enjoy his trip to Wolves last term was Sterling as he both of his side's goals in the 3-2 defeat, and after finishing as City's top scorer in 2020/21 he could once again be the man the Blues turn to, to find the net at Molineux.

ST - Gabriel Jesus

With Guardiola confirming that main marksman, Sergio Aguero could miss this first two months of this season, the Blues' boss will be relying on Jesus to be his main source in front of goal, starting with this evening's opener at Molineux.
