Thoughts for the match

Man City will be favourites for this match, as they are for most matches that they play in, and their recent record against the Foxes points in the direction of another City win.

However, with the strain that the pandemic has had on their squad, it would be wrong to write Leicester off, who have seemed to finally kick off their 2020 campaign having struggled so much since the turn of the year.

They will deploy a back three for the first time this season, handing Daniel Amartey his first league appearance for 23 months following his horrific injury, meaning that he is well and truly returning in the deep end.

There is no doubt that Rodgers is looking to sure up his defence before thinking about attack against a City side that have proved to be so potent in front of goal, before utilising the pace that Vardy and Harvey Barnes possess at the top end of the pitch to break quickly.

Leicester will hope to settle in their new formation quickly as, while their opponents are depleted in numbers, their starting XI is still full of goals and attacking threat.

Brendan Rodgers on how to tackle Man City

Speaking ahead of the game, Brendan Rodgers gave his thoughts on how to find success against Man City's "world-class players".

He stated: "You want to play your normal game against Manchester City but they are a team that eventually can sometimes pin you back with the quality of their game," he continued.

"You have to have that directness against them. With your quality, you hope you have chances in the game, we’ve always had that, and you’ve got to be resolute defensively."

He added: "Your ambition in the game is always there, to win and to compete, and then you have to be able to create opportunities to score, which hopefully we can do."

Pep Guardiola on the issues posed by the pandemic

Man City manager Pep Guardiola shed light on the issues that COVID-19 has created for him and his side.

After the Bournemouth game, he stated: “We train less. Today the managers - not just for Covid-19 - must use human resources or the guy who takes care (of that stuff) because we don't have time for training or a practice match.

“We have to recover and in three days we have Leicester, and then in three days or four we have Burnley, and after that Leeds."

He added: “We don't have time to train, just recover and arrive fresh to the game and that's all. We don't have time to practise anything, just avoid injuries. It is what it is.”

Leicester team news

Leicester will be without Wilfred Ndidi for up to 12 weeks due to an abductor injury that requires surgery.

Jonny Evans can return to the side after serving his three match suspension from the red card shown against Manchester United on the last day of last season.

Ricardo Periera has returned to training as his rehabilitation continues, though will remain unavailable for the game.

Man City team news

It has been revealed that City only have 13 senior players to chose from after being struck badly by injury.

They come into the game without a recognised senior striker after Jesus was ruled out due to sustaining an injury against Wolves, with Aguero having already been ruled out for some time.

They will also be without Aymeric Laporte after the defender returned from an isolation period, meaning he has not been able to work up to match fitness.

Liam Delap could make his Premier League debut after impressing in the cup midweek with a well taken goal.

Last meeting between the sides

The sides last met at the King Power Stadium and a close game resulted in a 1-0 Manchester City win.

Both sides came close to scoring, with Jamie Vardy hitting the post and Sergio Aguero being denied from the penalty spot, but it was Gabriel Jesus who struck the fatal blow in the 80th minute after a superb Riyad Mahrez run to win the game late on for his side.

Both teams will want points before Europe kicks in

In what will be a highly congested season for every side, teams in Europe, such as Man City and Leicester will have even more fixtures to contend with in a smaller space of time.

Due to this, both sides will want to get their seasons off to the perfect start in a bid to set themselves up for the rest of the campaign.

The Citizens have played two competitive games so far this season, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league before a youthful side knocked Bournemouth out of the Carabao Cup and they will be looking to carry on that winning feeling by collecting all three points against Leicester.

The Foxes have played two games in the league, beating both West Bromich Albion and Burnley, but were knocked out of the cup by Arsenal in what was a game between two much changed sides. A win against City would be welcomed as they look to return to winning ways.
