Manchester United bounced back from their dreadful opening day defeat with a 3-2 win away against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League

Below are the player ratings.

Defence

David de Gea 6/10: Brighton threatened the United goal on many occasions and De Gea can count himself very fortunate as they struck the woodwork five times. Neil Maupay did embarrass the United goalkeeper with a successful panenka penalty. De Gea pulled off an incredible save in the 93rd minute from point-blank range.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 2/10: The right-back returned to the starting eleven but had a nervy start and gave the ball away when under pressure which led to the penalty. Brighton's deadly attacks came down Wan-Bissaka's side and ultimately scored the equaliser from that position.

Victor Lindelof 3/10: Lindelof was consistently poor and had little to no improvement from last week's disaster against Crystal Palace.

Harry Maguire 6/10: Maguire thought he got the equaliser on the brink of half-time but it was later confirmed as an own-goal. Defensively he allowed attempts on goal but was helped with Brighton's misfortune. Maguire also won a 99th minute penalty with a header for Fernandes to steal the three points.

Luke Shaw 6/10: Shaw won the free-kick for the equaliser and showed promise when going forward.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic 6/10: The Serbian returned to the starting eleven and made his first league appearance of the season and got the assist for the equaliser. Matic also brought much needed stability in front of the back-four.

Paul Pogba 3/10: Pogba was sloppy in possession and created very little going forward. Fred replaced him just after the hour-mark.

Bruno Fernandes 8/10: The midfielder gave away a penalty in the first-half with a terribly lazy tackle but was quick to make amends when he whipped in a beautiful free-kick for Matic to cut it back and Maguire helped poke it in. He then converted from the penalty spot in the 100th minute to make it 3-2.

Attack

Mason Greenwood 5/10: A lack of chances came his way but snatched at them when they did.

Marcus Rashford 7/10: Rashford was caught offside twice which led to United goals being disallowed, both could have been avoided. He did then produce an excellent solo goal to give United the lead.

Anthony Martial 5/10: Martial had a wonderful solo run in the first half which led to Greenwood putting the ball in the back of the net but Rashford forgot to check his run and the goal was ruled offside.

Substitution ratings:

Fred 5/10: The Brazilian had little impact but helped Matic solidify the midfield.

Eric Bailly 4/10: United switched to a three centre-back formation and Bailly failed to clear a deep cross which led to Brighton's equaliser.

Donny van de Beek N/A: Came on in injury time.
