Ralph Hassenhuttl expressed his delight after the Saints won their first three points of the new campaign by calling it a "deserved win"

Southampton visited Turf Moor on Saturday evening where they walked away with the win after an early Danny Ings goal.

The English forward was playing against his former club Burnley, but this didn't fase the goalscorer as he handed his team the win.

Boss Hassenhuttl spoke to the media after the match and praised him for his goal:

"Yes, the goal was absolutely fantastic play. The deep run from Che was fantastic and the pass back in the area, fantastic goal from us."

It's the first time in 50 years that the Saints have won in Lancashire, and it wasn't an easy victory to obtain.

"It's difficult to play here. I think we had a very good performance tonight, especially against the ball and out of possession.

"We defended a lot but deserved to win. We still can do it better; the pressure was getting up and up in the second half."

"I think I only saw one chance for Burnley."

"The work against the ball from the strikers was amazing and that was absolutely needed today.

"This time we really tried to play more, keep the ball on the ground and stay protecting our goal. I think I only saw one chance for Burnley.

"We did it much better than the last time we were here, we couldn’t concede late because we deserved to get the three points today."

Southampton next play at midday on the 4th October at home to newly-promoted West Brom where they'll be looking for a second consecutive victory.
