Stoke City vs Rotherham United preview: How to watch, kick-off time, team news, predicted lineups and ones to watch

Stoke City will look to bounce back from their loss at Swansea City on Tuesday when they face newly-promoted Rotherham United at the Bet365 Stadium.

The Potters current sit 10th in the Championship on 12 points, only two points adrift of the play-off positions.

Meanwhile, the Millers moved up three places up to 17th following their emphatic 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the week and are now four points adrift of the relegation zone.

Team news

For Stoke, Steven Fletcher and Tyrese Campbell are expected to come back into the starting eleven after both being rested at the Liberty Stadium.

Also, Southampton loan goalkeeper Angus Gunn will make his first start for the club as regular number one - Adam Davies is out of action for four to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in the first half of the loss against Swansea.

On the other hand, Paul Warne is likely to name an unchanged side from the one that beat Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite suffering with an ankle problem, Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman will remain in goal, the ‘keeper is currently in a good run of form.

Ones to watch

Despite forward Campbell being left out of the starting 11 in Stoke's last outing, he is a dangerous force that the Millers will have to be wary of and consequently try to nullify.

In his last two games at the Bet365 Stadium against both Barnsley and Brentford, he netted a single goal in each encounter meaning that he will be full of confidence going into the fixture against Rotherham.

His blistering pace and his deadly finishing touch shown by him already having scored 14 goals in a Potters shirt despite being only 20 years of age, makes him a player that Rotherham will have to ensure does not occupy space in dangerous areas.

Whereas for Rotherham, after netting a brace in the week, Stoke will have to keep an eye on midfielder Jamie Lindsay who scored the first and third goal for the Millers on Wednesday night.

His opener came inside six minutes when his header inside the area looped over goalkeeper Cameron Dawson and into the back of the net.

Then on the stroke of half time, he was alert to stroke home a follow up from Daniel Barlaser's well-saved shot.

He will travel to Stoke with confidence that he can once again be the difference and help his side earn a positive result at the Bet365 stadium.

Previous meetings

The last time the two sides played was in April 2019 at the Bet365 Stadium, as Rotherham came from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Sam Vokes and Sam Clucas both netted before the half-hour mark, but second-half strikes by Michael Smith and Matt Crooks earned a point for the side who were relegated at the end of the same campaign.

In fact in the reverse fixture that took place in September 2018, it also ended 2-2, with it being Stoke coming from 2-0 down to rescue a point.

The Potters actually do not have a great record in the league against the Millers with their last victory coming all the way back in 2003 when they beat Rotherham 2-0 at home in the Football League Division One.

To date, this is Stoke's only victory against the side now managed by Warner in the last 10 meetings between the two teams with Rotherham winning five, and the outcome being a draw on four occasions.
