Crucial win

Post-match analysis

After going 1-0 up thanks to Bernard's 19th-minute strike, they failed to kick on.

United showed great spirit after falling behind and were level almost instantly through Fernandes, who powered his header past Pickford.

The comeback was complete when Fernandes' cross nestled into the back of the net without Rashford getting a touch in the 32nd minute.

Cavani then put some gloss on the result by finishing low into the bottom corner in the 95th minute from the Portuguese International's pull back.

Ultimately, Everton were poor and Manchester United thoroughly deserved their win.

A drab second half but United won't care - they did all of their hard work to come from behind in the first half.

If you believe the rumors, this could be Solsjkaer's last game in charge.

Therefore, it is imperative United get back to winning ways this afternoon.

It will be extremely interesting to see if he is able to get a reaction out of his team.

Solsjkaer feeling optimistic

Addressing the media prior to the game, Solsjkaer said: "Every time you play for United you expect to see passion and fight. I'm a believer in these boys, they'll come back and show how much they care.

"Today has been a bright day and the boys are ready for a reaction. We're all hurt and it's never easy or enjoyable to lose two on the bounce. That's football and you've got to react.

"We're searching for consistency. That's something we need to improve on. Every game becomes history quickly and we've got to go to Goodison Park in a positive mindset."

Manchester United: Team News

Dean Henderson was between the sticks in Wednesday night’s defeat, but David De Gea is expected to return, along with Fred.

Anthony Martial is eligible for selection after serving his three-match domestic ban, while Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood are also in contention to start.

Long term absentees, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones remain side-lined and Victor Lindelof is a doubt after it emerged he was still troubling with a bad back.

Everton: Team News

Ancelotti opted to select Robin Olsen in goal at Newcastle, but he indicated that Jordan Pickford would be reinstated for Saturday.

Lucas Digne is available for selection after his three-game ban for a red card against Southampton was reduced to a single match on appeal. However, Richarlison is still suspended, following his sending off in the Merseyside derby.

James Rodriguez required rest but should be available again, and Andre Gomes should be available despite receiving a knock to his knee.

Seamus Coleman, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are all major doubts.

United need to find some form and fast

Manchester United may be top of Group H in the UEFA Champions League on goal difference, but their lackluster and toothless 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey on Wednesday night left pundits and fans alike asking even more questions of Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, who is under more pressure than ever to turn their dismal form around.

Every Premier League game is a must-win for the Red Devils at the moment, who astonishingly, sit closer to the relegation zone than the top seven having recorded just seven points from their opening six matches.

United have picked up just a solitary point at Old Trafford, which came in the stalemate to Chelsea on 24 October, but they have won both of their away matches, so it may suit them playing away from home.

Toffees look to get back to winning ways

Everton’s impressive start to the season was dealt another blow when they suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under Carlo Ancelotti after they were beaten 2-1 away to Newcastle last Sunday

However, the early Premier League leaders can return to the top of the table with a win over Manchester United this afternoon.

Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten at Goodison Park this season and will fancy their chances, having dropped just two points. That came in their last home game when Calvert Lewin salvaged a point in an entertaining Merseyside derby, which ended 2-2.
