Good viewing for Saints fans

Final thoughts

It was a well-deserved victory for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side who go top of the Premier as their unbeaten run extends to six.

The Saints were classy in possession and took an early lead. While they did have the advantage they needed a second goal to ensure Newcastle didn't hinder any plans of going top. The home side eventually found that second and in truth were unlucky they didn't score more having had 15 goal attempts to Newcastle's four, of which eight were on target to two of the Magpies.

Another trademark display from Hasenhuttl's side as they look to be a real threat this year with this game making it 16 points from their last possible 18.

Forced changes for Southampton

With Danny Ings sidelined for the next month or so, Ralph Hasenhuttl appears to have opted for a striker role for Theo Walcott, how might that play out?

While at the back he has been forced into a change of personnel with Jan Bednarek replacing Ryan Bertrand at left-back. In an unnatural position, it could be a tough night for him with the pace Newcastle have on offer in attack.

Can Newcastle keep their unbeaten streak against Southampton?

Newcastle haven't lost to Southampton since April 2016, an unbeaten Premier League streak spanning six games, but can they maintain that run?

The exploits of Callum Wilson will no doubt play a big part in the Magpies getting a result today, with his six goals in seven games it will be a tough night for the Saints defence.

19:3418 days ago

Will Southampton survive without Danny Ings?

Danny Ings is no doubt a huge miss for Saints, but it isn't the be-all and end-all. Last season that definitely may have been the case but this campaign Che Adams has stepped up and is in great form so far this season.

As is James Ward-Prowse with his set-pieces having tucked two away last time out. It will no doubt be tougher for Southampton, but they have the quality to make sure they can get the job done with or without Ings.
