Gary Madine scored twice as Blackpool booked their place in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup at the expense of non-league Eastbourne Borough.

Jerry Yates was also on target late on as the League One side sealed a 3-0 win against their National League South opponents at Priory Lane.

It was a brave performance from the part-timers in front of the BT Sport cameras, but they couldn't take their chances and fitness levels eventually took their toll.

Pool came close within just two minutes when Sully Kaikai’s effort was turned onto the post by Franco Ravizzoli before the playmaker was denied by the upright again 12 minutes in after good work from CJ Hamilton.

Big chance

However, it was Eastbourne who had the best chance of the first half when James Ferry played a good ball over the top and played through Greg Luer, but one on one with Chris Maxwell saw his effort saved by the visiting keeper.

A last-ditch block from Dan Gretarsson denied Charlie Walker from testing Maxwell further moments later, before a great save from Ravizzoli denied Yates on the half hour mark.

Breakthrough

And the Sports were made to pay for their missed chances before the hour when James Husband whipped in a ball from the left and picked out Madine who hooked the ball into the far corner.

And the former Cardiff City and Sheffield United forward doubled his and Blackpool’s tally ten minutes later with a neat low finish after Yates’ downward header.

Borough pushed forwards in search of a response, with substitute Charley Kendall curling just wide after a good break from midfield.

Pool seal victory

However, the Tangerines managed the game well once in front, and added a cruel third goal on the hosts in stoppage time when Dan Kemp played in Yates, who slotted past Ravizzoli from a tight angle.
