Crystal Palace have joined the race alongside Premier League rivals Everton, for Real Madrid's Mariano Diaz. The striker is rumoured to be worth around £25 million according to Sport.
The £70k-a-week La Liga champion hasn't been a regular for Real Madrid, and with just two months into the new league campaign, he has only played a total of 14 minutes all season.
With Everton's firepower upfront, they may not see the need for Diaz, which could leave room for Palace to swoop in and persuade the Dominican-Spanish forward to Selhurst Park.
The situation at Real Madrid
Diaz returned to Los Blancos back in 2018 after he impressed with a 21 goal return at French side Lyon. Real Madrid decided to show their faith in Diaz, providing him with the responsibility of the number seven shirt, which had been vacated by the departing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Everyone expected his form to carry on with Madrid, but he was no Ronaldo, as Diaz failed to cement a regular first team spot.
Two years and just three La Liga starts later, Diaz appears to have admitted that his dream at Madrid is well and truly over - with the likes of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior trusted to do a job in the final third.
The next step in his career is likely to be the Premier League and Palace will have to brawl with Everton and West Ham to bring Diaz to south London.
Potential link-up with Eze and Zaha
Michy Batshuayi is struggling to find the net and Jordan Ayew isn't starting games like he did last season. Christian Benteke has proved to be unreliable in front of goal and as a result of Palace's attacking frailties, Diaz could undoubtedly fit into the team nicely.
Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze are both currently in inspired form of late and you can see the confidence brimming from the pair. Roy Hodgson still needs a prolific striker, someone who can support the goal scoring exploits of Zaha.
Diaz is a natural goal threat who has no problem in finding the back of the net. He would offer Palace a strong counter-attacking threat, whilst adding his pinpoint short passing range, and fierce shot from distance to Hodgson's artillery.
Zinedine Zidane may not want the forward, however, Palace have been crying out for a long-distance shooter since the days of Darren Ambrose. Diaz is a younger and quicker alternative that can bolster the Eagles' attack.
Famous 'El Clasico' goal
Diaz only played one minute of the 'El Clasico' against Barcelona earlier this year. However, in that minute, he spun Samuel Umtiti from a throw-in, before racing towards goal and firing past Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the near post , sealing the win for Madrid.
That goal was his very first touch of the ball last season in La Liga and what an impact it had. It shows how deadly the Dominican Republic international can be, when trusted with game time.
The 27-year-old can be utilised to the best of his ability and Palace have the potential to play with a bit more freedom, as they showcased against Leeds United.
The forward is involved in one of the most bizarre statistics, that has to be enough reason to give him a try in the Premier League donning the red and blue of Crystal Palace.
