Southampton 0-1 Manchester City- As it happened

The full-time whistle blows. City have grabbed the 3 points at St. Mary's. They climb up to 5th place.

Southampton commit numbers forward and Mahrez is presented with a glorious chance on the volley inside the box. He can't keep his shot down, however.

De Bruyne picks out Mahrez brilliantly with the outside of his foot but Mahrez can't apply the finish and skies the ball.

Southampton are trying to crack Manchester City's defence but Guardiola's side stay tight. 4 minutes to go...

N'lundulu comes on for Adams.

Gundogan's shot is heading towards the top corner but Mccarthy is level to it. Fantastic save from the keeper.

Walker-Peters skips past his man and play a through ball to the youngster, Tella. He puts in a great ball which causes confusion between Diaz and Ederson. Adams couldn't quite angle his header towards the goal. Let off.

De Bruyne almost capitalises on Bertrand's error. However, the finish is too tame and hasn't tested the Saints keeper.

Lovely football from Saints. Romeu inches away from picking out the onrushing Bertrand. The ball trickles past for a goal kick

The ball meets Sterling's elbow from the corner but is deemed to be ball to hand.

Djenepo makes way for Redmond.

De Bruyne's corner is dealt with by Bednarek.

City catch Southampton on the break with De Bruyne exposing the space Walker-Peters left. De Bruyne fizzles the ball into Silva's feet but his finish lacked any venom to beat Mccarthy. 

Cancelo picks out a beautiful pass to Torres who can't quite find the target. Whistles past Mccarthy's goal.

We are back underway at St. Mary's

It has been a very tight contest so far. Sterling put the visitors ahead early on but Southampton have responded well. Both sides look very lively; sets up for a good second half. 

A worry for Saints as Ings is forced to come off. Replaced by Nathan Tella.

Romeu goes into the book after a challenge on Torres.

Walcott plays a beautiful cross in towards Che Adams who couldn't get any contact on the ball. 

Ward-Prowse's delivery is pinpoint but Vestergaard can't get the right connection on the ball.

Southampton corner. Walcott earns a corner off Cancelo.

Walcott dinks the ball into Ings who guides his header wide.

De Bruyne picks up the first yellow card of the game after a tackle on Bertrand. 

Ward-Prowse's free-kick is headed out by Walker.

Free kick for Southampton after a foul on Djenepo, near the corner flag.

Walcott takes a shot which forces a save to Ederson's right. Danny Ings inches away from getting anything on the rebound. Better from the home side.

Guardiola's side have their tails up. They are pushing for the second. What's Southampton's response?

Raheem Sterling finishes off a brilliant City move. Ederson's long ball finds De Bruyne who cuts it back and finds his partner, Sterling. 1-0 City

Rodri has the ball in the back of the net from De Bruyne's free kick but was deemed offside.

Adams commits a foul around 40 yards out. De bruyne will take it.

City corner. The corner is played out to Rodri who fires a decent effort at Mccarthy, forcing a save.

Ings lays the ball off to Djenepo who wis unable to conjure anything up just outside the City box. City quickly break with numbers but Sterling's shot goes way above the goal.

Both sides look dangerous coming forward. The game has started at a high tempo. Saints' press causing City's backline problems.

Ward-Prowse's corner is headed away at the front post. The ball comes back to the skipper who plays the ball into Djenepo but the latter couldn't beat Walker.

Ings carries the ball out from the halfway line brilliantly and feeds Djenepo who earns the Saints a corner.

Raheem Sterling does well to skip past Walker-Peters but gets crowded out by Jan Bednarek.

Both teams lookup for the challenge. Ward-Prowse leading his side out the tunnel alongside City skipper De Bruyne.

City striker Sergio Aguero could be in contention to feature at St Mary’s. Despite a new injury problem and the forward playing for only 14 minutes against West Brom mid-week.

 

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Eric Garcia are the only two City injury concerns.

 

Southampton have no injury concerns or suspensions.

Pep Guardiola's side sit ninth in the table with a game in hand.

Manchester City have failed to replicate the form they showed last season but will look to climb up the European spaces with a win today at Southampton.

City are four games unbeaten.

High flying Southampton sit third in the table and will seek to grab their 5th home win of the season. 

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side have turned their home form around from last season, and sit second in the home form table. 

The Saints have lost one game in their last 11 games in the Premier League.

Southampton vs Manchester City will be played at St. Mary's stadium.
