However, five minutes in and Theo Walcott shoots centrally from just outside the box and forces a smart save from Leno.
Time for the second half
Can Southampton get back into this or will Arsenal successfully resist?
Half-time thoughts
Southampton had further chances too and are still very much in the game, they just need to attempt to have more chances inside the box rather than outside.

It was arguably one of Arsenal's best performances of the season. They came from behind to win 3-1 and looked great throughout. The Gunners pressed well all game and played just as well in possession. There needs to be a special mention for Cedric with his incredible range of passing on display today and certainly instrumental in the result. Arteta's side has now won their last three away games with the base of youth talent playing dividends.
Southampton weren't out of the game by any means but will rule over missed opportunities in the first half, before quieting down for the second period. The lack of goals may be a concern over recent matches but they gave a good account of themselves, just not consistent enough throughout the match to deserve even a point.
