Stat attack

Newcastle United has not recorded a Premier League double over Everton since the 2001-02 season under Bobby Robson, winning 3-1 away and 6-2 at home.

Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in each of his last four Premier League appearances against Newcastle, netting five goals. The last player to score in five consecutive appearances against the Magpies was Sergio Agüero between 2013 and 2016.

Everton have lost just one of their last eight Premier League games (W5 D2), going down 0-1 against West Ham on New Year's Day.

Since Opta began recording stats no Newcastle team has had fewer shots at this stage of the season than this current one.

Carlo Ancelotti pre-match quotes

Ancelotti on Newcastle

“I think it’s an important game for both teams for different reasons. For us, it’s really important because we have the possibility to go up the table and it can be a good motivation for the second part of the season.”

“We have to pay attention to this game because every game in the Premier League is important and unpredictable. Newcastle are not in a good moment but it will be a difficult game as usual. I didn’t find easy games this season.”

Ancelotti on Steve Bruce

“I have a lot of sympathy for Steve. I like him as a man.. He is under pressure but who isn’t? We are all under pressure. Steve has the experience & knowledge to move quickly from this situation.”

Steve Bruce pre-match quotes

Bruce on Everton

"We played very, very well [in the home fixture]. We know we're capable and to be capable we need everybody fit and healthy and we're edging towards that. I was pleased with the second half against Leeds so let's hope we can build on that."

Bruce on being bulletproof

"I wouldn't expect to be bulletproof, no.

"I haven't (had any assurances).

"We're in the Premier League, and we're judged on results - they haven't been good enough at the moment."

Bruce on teams below Newcastle picking up points

They had bad runs at the start, which is why they're there.

"We're having ours now.

"You don't want a difficult period to last too long and ours has lasted too long but let's hope we can get a result & build some confidence."

Allan and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are still another week away from full fitness and will also miss the game.

18:05a month ago

Head to Head

Over the previous two seasons, Everton and Newcastle have had great battles with both clubs winning twice and drawing once.

Overall, over the last ten years, the blue boys from Merseyside have ruled the roost with double the amount wins.

Everton has beaten Newcastle eleven times, with the Magpies only winning five, and three stalemates. The matches between the two clubs rarely are dull and always have goals.

18:00a month ago

Newcastle United Form

Over the past ten games, Newcastle has dampened what a positive start to the season was. Before December, a top ten finish was within reach and a certain possibility.

Since then Newcastle has won one game and drawn two scoring a total of five goals and dropping down the table fast, with a new coach added into the ranks and transfer additions unlikely Newcastle could really bounce back from a positive second-half performance against Leeds United in the midweek with a second win against Everton whom the Magpies prevailed over back in November.

17:55a month ago

Everton Form

Everton had a hot start to this Premier League campaign, and like many runs to reach the top there is a stumble for the Toffee’s it was November.

Only three points out of a possible eighteen were picked up in November, and this set Everton back from the high rising pack of the ‘big six’ since then five wins out of seven with crucial victories against Arsenal, Chelsea, and Leicester.

The only stumble came at the hands of on fire West Ham United. The record for Everton would be even better if not for dropped points in midweek and Leicester. With one position still proving a problem for the Toffees.

17:50a month ago

A Must Win

Newcastle United need three points after a dismal ten-game stretch for the Magpies a win will set them eight points clear, depending on the result in a bottom of the league clash between Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.

Everton need three points to chase the dream of cracking the illustrious top-four place. The toffees sit four points behind their Merseyside rivals a win at home against a struggling Newcastle side would not be seen as a massive step, but with other clubs tripping over games, they should be winning on paper all points at this stage of the season are a success.
