Final Thoughts

The points are shared at the Emirates. Both sides had a better second half as something had to give in this game. There were glimpses in the game with Arsenal coming close hitting the woodwork and coming close with Nicolas Pepe's effort in the 81st minute. United threatened with Luke Shaw's dangerous left foot but their loss of Scott McTominay in the first half was a massive blow in the creation of chances in the centre of the park.

Full Time: Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

The points are shared at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta will be the happier of the managers with United now three points adrift of Manchester City in first place who have a game in hand.

90' 3 Minutes added on time

Alexander Lacazette and Harry Maguire go down after a clash of heads. There will be a few more minutes added on for the injuries to both players in stoppage time. The game seemingly going to a goaless draw here in North London.
20:15a month ago

85' Foul by Wan Bissaka

Willian is fouled by Aaron Wan Bisakka, an easy decision for the referee as he is evaded from behind. Penultimate free kick is wasted, which has been the story of the game from both sides so far.
20:11a month ago

81' Chance for Arsenal

Best chance of the game for Arsenal by a long stretch. Hector Bellerin feeds Nicolas Pepe who tries a low effort into the bottom left hand corner of David De Gea's net. The ball misses the goal by centimetres.
20:07a month ago

78' Chance for United

Marcus Rashford's last kick of the game is a shot rifled at the side netting of Leno's goal. Mason Greenwood is his replacement.
20:04a month ago

76' Yellow card

Yellow card is awarded to Harry Maguire as he puts off Alexander Lacazette going through on goal. Tactical foul more than anything.

Last 15 minutes to go in a better half than the first. Both teams are still looking for the opening goal.
19:56a month ago

United try to hit back with Luke Shaw on the left. His left foot working wonders once again with a low cross into the heart of the Arsenal defence. But Luiz is there to smash the ball away.

64' Arsenal hit the woodwork!

Lacazette's free kick hits the crossbar. David De Gea was caught by surprise. Very close for the hosts in opening their account. Emile Smith Rowe has a chance moments later but De Gea is equal to it parrying his shot. Arsenal are having their best phase in the game.
19:49a month ago

Luke Shaw combines with Fred who feeds the ball to Martial. Martial himself returns the favour. The ball is driven low by Luke Shaw's lethal left foot into Arsenal's danger area, but takes a ricochet and the chance is gone for an effort on Leno's goal.

59' Foul by Smith Rowe

As Maguire bursts forward he is brought down by Emile Smith Rowe who breaks up the danger.

Game is in transition. Surely something has to give here as both teams look very pedestrian going forward.
19:38a month ago

48' Chance for Arsenal

Ball comes out to Willian after an inticing cross by Hector Bellerin. He has the goal to aim at, but lacks any kind of intent and positivity in his shot. United get away with it as the low drive is blocked by their backline.

Roy Keane's thoughts

"Arsenal will be delighted with 0-0. They will keep battling away, the more the scoreline stays the same of course."

Half Time: Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

Not the greatest advert for football in the first part of the game. Not many clear cut chances as both teams have grown into the game. The managers will push for more urgency in the second if either side is to win this tie.

Scott McTominay was replaced by Anthony Martial on 36 minutes as he suffered a muscle injury. Solskjaer will be looking to the disposal of Martial to carry more of an attacking threat in the second half.

44' Free Kick for United

Bruno Fernandes tries an effort from outside the box. The ball takes a massive deflection in the process and is blazed over the bar. Half time beckons.
19:14a month ago

The ball is played into Rashford crying out for a first time shot on goal. But the star forward takes too many touches as Arsenal get back to sniff out the danger.

Tight affair so far at the Emirates as United win a corner courtesy of a good work by Anthony Martial.

36' Substitution for United

First change of the evening.

Injured Scott McTominay is replaced by Anthony Martial.

19:05a month ago

33' Chance for United

Bruno Fernandes is through, cuts into his inside as he is tracked back by an Arsenal defender and fizzes the ball wide of the right hand corner of the goal. Game is opening up as both teams are slowly growing into the game.
19:02a month ago

30' Chance for Arsenal

Emile Smith Rowe is central to the attack. He dribbles with the ball nicely, neatly playing in Nicolas Pepe who takes a touch, puts the ball onto his left and tries to curl the ball into the left hand corner of the net. Fails to hit the target but it was close!
18:58a month ago

27' Chance for Arsenal

David Luiz tries to head on the ball from the initial free kick. The ball finds itself into the path of several United players who manage to get the ball away unconvincingly.
18:56a month ago

Gary Neville says "there is a lack of urgency from both teams." Neither team has found a way to trouble either defence. 26 minutes gone on the clock.
18:54a month ago

McTominay seems to have suffered an injury and retreats to the sidelines but is strong enough to carry on, as Shaw delivers another corner for United. Arsenal look to break on the counter as they clear their lines from the corner.
18:51a month ago

19' Corner for United

Ball is fizzed in and finds it way to Fred. He tries to place the ball into the far corner, the accuracy is there but the effort lacks enough power to trouble Leno.
18:49a month ago

Marcus Rashford breaks towards Arsenal's danger area. Tries to find Bruno Fernandes on the outside but is denied.
18:47a month ago

16' Chance for Arsenal

Lacazette tries an effort from range but David De Gea comfortably collects. First chance of the game comes Arsenal's way.
18:45a month ago

12' Yellow card

Both sets of players protest with each other as Cedric leans an arm against Bruno Fernandes's face. Cedric penultimately goes into the Michael Oliver's book.
18:41a month ago

Nothing to report on so far as both teams are trying to find the gaps in between. Arsenal having the better of the possession in the opening ten minutes.
18:37a month ago

6' Foul by Xhaka

Granit Xhaka puts his arm out as Marcus Rashford was ready to race away. Referee stops play to attend to Rashford.

20 Minutes to go!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected a strong team with Edinson Cavani starting. Manchester United have been good away from home and will be looking to carry on this good run of form on the road. The main talking point for United is Victor Lindelof is chosen over Eric Bailly at the back.

Mikel Arteta has selected Thomas Partey and Nicolas Pepe, hoping the duo link up well with Emile Smith Rowe towards the top of the park. Arsenal will be looking to put together a run in their next few games in pursuit of a top six place.

Manchester United Form

Manchester United were perched off top spot last week and will be looking to get back to winning ways at the Emirates Stadium. United's run of good form in all competitions came to end courtesy Sheffield United after their persistence performance at Old Trafford. The Red Devils now come into this game four points off top spot. A win here and they will close the gap between themselves and Manchester City to just the one point.

Arsenal Form

Over the last couple of weeks there has been a slight resurgence under Mikel Arteta with the team under a period of transition in their recent results. Wins over West Brom in the league and Newcastle in the FA Cup and in the Premier League, have given Arsenal hope of breaking into the top six. Emile Smith Rowe has been a breath of fresh air for the Gunners and will look to help the team overcome a United side who suffered a shock defeat last week at the hands of Burnley at Old Trafford. Arsenal defeated Southampton comfortably at St Mary's last time out. Nicolas Pepe, Bakayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette all on the scoresheet. Arsenal are currently in 9th place, three points off 6th place.

Away team news

Manchester United will look to Eric Bailly despite the defender taking a knock in training which had ruled him out of this weeks fixture. He will be fit for the trip to North London looking to replace Axel Tuanzebe after his poor performance in midweek against the Blades. Anthony Martial will most likely be available but Edinson Cavani could take his place ahead of the Frenchmen, simply down to recent performances. Fred and Scott McTominay were rested in midweek and could return in midfield. There is no update on Brandon Williams who is out of the team. Luke Shaw is in contention after his electric form despite Alex Telles getting a recent assist.

Home team news

Arsenal could expect the debut of Martin Odegaard with the Gunners looking to creativity from midfield. Pierre Emerick Aubamayeng could be available for selection for Mikel Arteta after the striker missed the last two games for personal reasons. But uncertainty surrounds the forward for this particular tie. Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe will be assessed prior to the game, both limping off against Southampton with muscle injuries in midweek. Kieran Tierney is a possibility but not a certainty.
