Arsenal have been linked to French midfield sensation Eduardo Camavinga for a big money move from Stade Rennais this summer.

Camavinga is an 18-year-old central midfielder, currently playing in Ligue 1 for Rennes and has been linked with a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but the Gunners have been linked with a move in recent weeks.

The midfielder has played 80 competitive games during his career, making his debut in 2019 aged just 16 years of age.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, the Frenchman only has seven goal involvements so far in his career, consisting of two goals and five assists.

Camavinga made his first team debut for the senior French national team in September 2020 and has scored one goal in his three appearances for the team.

At 18 years of age, Camavinga stands tall at 1.82m, but despite his height is extremely agile and possesses speed in the centre of the park and can easily drift past players on the ball.

The young midfielder’s passing ability, defensive capabilities and ability both in and out of possession, Camavinga is shaping up to be one of Europes hottest properties.

His contract expires next summer, and his side would be reluctant to lose him on a free transfer, the Gunners have the opportunity to tempt Stade Rennais to sell their wonderkid rather than let him leave for nothing.

Following a forgettable season, where it looks increasingly likely that Arsenal will miss out on European football for the first time in 25 years, owner Stan Kroenke has promised a big summer, and a revolutionary squad overhaul, the club are already looking at summer transfer targets.

Where does he fit?

Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are both are currently out on loan from the club and have both been linked to exits from the Emirates this summer, which could create a space for the young French midfielder in Mikel Arteta’s squad next season.

Camavinga would come into the side and have a chance to learn and play alongside on of the best centre-midfielders in Europe with Thomas Partey and would offer competition with Xhaka for a starting place in the side.

Dani Ceballos is returning to Real Madrid following his two-year loan spell at the club, and despite his age would slot into the team better than defensive minded Mo Elneny, who has spent time out on loan from the club in recent seasons and would excite fans more than the hardworking Egyptian.

A €50 million fee has been reported for the youngster, and it will be interesting for Arsenal fans to see if the owners put their money where his mouth is to go out and sign a player of his ability and potential talent.

The signing of Camavinga would excite fans, but is not the only signing the team need this season, and although will be a sign of times changing and moving in the right direction, the owners should not believe it will earn fans trust and forgiveness.
