And that's a wrap!

A great win for Sheffield United and a sluggish end to the season for Burnley. Shoots of optimism for the Blades, bidding to gain a quick return to the Premier League, but work to do for Burnley in the transfer market. The Clarets limped over the line in the end, looking short in a number of areas across the field.

Full-time: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

Burnley just didn't seem to want it as much. They were playing against a team with supporters in the stadium and they just looked a little short. It has been a long and difficult season, however, and they are the team who are going to be playing Premier League football next season. This result really didn't matter very much.

Full-time: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

There is life in this Sheffield United team. The fans helped to breathe more life into them. Chris Wilder might be gone but Heckingbottom has managed to stabalise the club. He has kept faith with the back-three system and they looked like last year's Sheffield United today.

A mixture of experienced players and young talents should be able to have a really good go in the Championship. It's important to keep 90% of the squad together and keeping Heckingbottom could also be a shrewd move. The interim boss seems to have the backing of the players.

Full-time: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

Probably the lest entertaining of all the final day matches but Sheffield United fans will be happy! Just imagine what could have been if Bramall Lane had been allowed supporters for the full season. It really does make a big difference for a family club like this.

Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

57: Huge opportunity wasted for Sheffield United. Stevens is in acres of space on the left, with Lowton tucked inside. Osborn's pass to him is poor, though, and the wing-back cannot shift the ball towards McGoldrick.

The home manager will simply ask for more of the same. His players look up for the fight! The signs of an instant return to the top-flight are absolutely there. Whether Heckingbottom will be around to oversee that remains to be seen.

Elsewhere

Twists and turns in the Champions League race. Leicester City drawing with Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool beating Crystal Palace and Chelsea losing to Aston Villa.

At present, Leicester are slipping out but a victory will take them into the top-four, if Chelsea cannot get three points against Villa. Liverpool look best placed.

16:584 months ago

Magic from Matej?

Matej Vydra had played himself into form but the Czech star has been sat on the bench for two matches in a row. That made sense against Liverpool, putting another man in the midfield, but you would think that a striking duo would better test the back-three of Sheffield United.
16:554 months ago

Nightmare for Norris?

The third-choice goalkeeper is looking like the third-choice again today. He was questionable in midweek and McGoldrick wouldn't have expected his shot to have found the net. It was a well placed effort, but it shouldn't have had the power to creep over the line.
16:524 months ago

Half-time: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

Feeble first-half for Burnley. They started the game relatively well but their attacking intent disintegrated after McGoldrick's opener. Everything seems a little slow at the moment.

Half-time: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

A solid first-half for Sheffield United. Their fans have suffered for the whole season but this is some respite for those who managed to get into Bramall Lane. The Blades have showed a lot of endeavour throughout the match.

GOAL!!! McGOLDRICK! Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley

23: McGoldrick isn't picked up in the midfield and he has a lot of time to stride forward without much challenge. He measures up a strike from 25-yards that skids off the surface and nestles in the back of the net. Norris is slow down to the shot, though, and his defenders don't seem to impressed.

HALF CHANCE! Sheffield United 0-0 Burnley

15: Baldock did well to clip an inviting first-time ball to the back post, but McGoldrick couldn't get a strong connection on the ball. The forward stretched his foot out but he couldn't direct an effort on goal.

Big day for Jimmy Dunne

The Nick Pope news has dominated pre-match discussion but it's a huge day for Jimmy Dunne. The youngster did start the Premier League season in the starting eleven and he has now returned to it, following an injury to Ben Mee.

It's a great opportunity to impress for the academy talent!

Kick-off approaching

My hope is that both teams can play with the shackles off today. There are exciting players on both teams and there is absolutely no reason not to play to entertain. Let's hope that the fans can enjoy themselves!
15:534 months ago

It Wood be nice!

A little exterior bonus for me would be to see Chris Wood on the scoresheet. The New Zealand star has just entered my Fantasy Premier League team!

Wood has been in excellent form for some time now, sitting on 12 Premier League goals. He has seven goals in his last five away matches!

15:504 months ago

Awesome attack

Daniel Jebbison and David McGoldrick are forming a really interesting partnership. A 17-year-old and a 33-year-old; like father and son!

Jebbison has burst onto the scene in recent weeks, scoring the winner against Everton, but McGoldrick has been Mr Consistent in the forward areas. He isn't necessarily ruthless, but he always gives 100% and his link-up play is generally very good.

Jebbison recently signed his first professional contract with the club. The Blades will hope that his relationship with McGoldrick can flourish next season in the Championship.

Hope for Pope?

Chris Boden suggests that there is some hope for Pope, ahead of his minor surgery. The overriding narrative seems to be that the goalkeeper will miss out on the Euros but the Burnley Express writer is not giving up the ghost.

BREAKING NEWS: Nick Pope OUT of the Euros!

It would appear as though Burnley were protecting Pope in recent weeks. His injury was obviously more serious than reports were letting on, but they didn't want to destroy his Euros dream.

While the surgery is only minor, it would be enough to keep him out of the start of the international tournament. He will be fit and firing for the new Premier League season, but that won't be on his mind right now. The poor man will be devastated.

BREAKING NEWS: Nick Pope OUT of the Euros!

Dean Henderson is expected to become the number-two keeper now, leaving a gap to fill as the third-choice stopper.

Ramsdale, in Sheff United's goal, could be in line for a call-up, alongside West Bromwich Albion's Sam Johnstone.

BREAKING NEWS: Nick Pope OUT of the Euros!

The news slowly broke just after the team announcement's and nobody is offering a counter narrative. It seems as though Pope's injury requires surgery and that will deny him his England dream.

Pope will be devastated. Jordan Pickford was expected to be the number-one, but the opportunity to be in the England National Team squad would have been a dream come true for the Clarets stopper.

Goalkeeper crisis

In the other camo, Nick Pope remains absent with a slight injury. Will Norris has retained the gloves, despite conceding three goals to Liverpool in midweek.

Sean Dyche has said that Norris deserved some action as a mark of respect for his efforts. However, a second consecutive start for the back-up keeper does throw a little bit of shade in Bailey Peacock-Farrell's direction.

Peacock-Farrell was the recognised number-two at Burnley but, after conceding 11 goals in three Premier League starts, it appears as though he has temporarily slipped down the pecking order.

Acclaim for Aaron Ramsdale

When Aaron Ramsdale came in for £20-million in the summer, he really struggled to replace the void left by Dean Henderson. He wasn't necessarily making a collection of individual errors but he just wasn't making too many important saves.

However, the former Bournemouth man has really come alive in the second half of the season. He is playing with a lot more authority between the sticks, making a number of top stops over recent matches.

Home fans back!

5,000 Sheffield United supporters will be back in Bramall Lane to cheer their players on.

One reason why the Blades have struggled could be attributed to their lack of supporters. Sheffield United are a family club with a rousing fanbase. They will hope that their vocal support can get them over the line in this one!

Baldock returns; Dunne unexpectedly starts

A change-a-piece for the two teams.

My VAVEL Prediction

I have gone for a 2-1 Sheffield United victory in my Premier League predictions piece.

In truth, this could be any scoreline. It's the final match of the season, neither team has anything major on the line, and the Blades are playing in front of a small selection of supporters.

It might seem wishful thinking, given that Sheffield United and Burnley are the two lowest scoring teams in the league (19 and 33 respectively), but there could be a good number of goals!

Burnley Key Man

The goalkeeper: Whoever gets the gloves! Pope is unlikely to be risked, meaning either Bailey Peacock-Farrell or Will Norris will step in. Both of the back-up options have had a sketchy recent display and whoever gets tasked with starting will hope to put that behind them!

Sheffield United Key Man

Daniel Jebbison: The 17-year-old scored the winning goal against Everton last weekend. In a season of few highlights, the late emergence of this academy talent will please the Sheffield United faithful. There's nothing better than a homegrown talent!

Burnley Team News

Robbie Brady, Kevin Long and Dale Stephens are all definitely out, while Nick Pope is unlikely to be risked with the European Championships just around the corner.

Sheffield United Team News

Jack O'Connell, Ethan Ampadu, Oli McBurnie, Oliver Burke and Billy Sharp are all absentees, highlighting United's injury issues all over the pitch.

George Baldock and Sander Berge are also expected to miss out, but John Lundstram could feature for his final game at Bramall Lane. The midfielder will leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Crumbling Clarets

Burnley's win against Fulham confirmed their Premier League status for the 2021-22 season.

Unfortunately, their form has dramatically dropped off since achieving survival, losing by an collective score of 7-0 against Leeds United and Liverpool. What those results have shown is that there is some work for Burnley to do in the summer transfer window.

12:094 months ago

Blunt Blades

Sheffield United have struggled for goals all season. The Blades have only scored three times in Paul Heckingbottom's ten matches in charge.

However, two of those goals were winning goals, against Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion, so the goals that they have scored have been relatively important.
