Well, that was a poor game, in truth.

Sunderland had the better of the first half and went ahead through Ross Stewart after good work from Elliot Embleton.

Hull City came back into it in the second half, and deservedly levelled through Josh Magennis.

It looked like it would be a draw, but Will Grigg won it at the death, heading in from close range in the last minute.

Grant McCann won't be too happy about the result, but he'll be more worried about Magennis and Lewie Coyle who both went off with injuries - although neither looked too serious.

Sunderland win it at the death - Will Grigg grabs a much needed goal to give the home side the win in this pre-season match.

90' - Jacob with the corner, and the home side get a free kick. That's it, surely...

90' - Will Grigg heads in from a yard out after giving Emmanuel the slip. Poor goal to concede!

Sunderland have won it!

89' - Good battling from Jarvis. City then give it away and Diamond wins a free kick in a dangerous area. TWO minutes of added time to be played.

88' - Diamond finds Hawkes, but it's blasted way, way over. Bad decision, that - the cross was on!

87' - CHANCE! KLP just couldn't sort his feet out. Good chance for City to win it there.

86' - Beckett now on for Longman in the Tigers' last change.

85' - Hawkes crosses but Ingram gathers. Sunderland back with the ball now, though...

84' - Festus Arthur now on for Alfie Jones.

83' - EFFORT! KLP's free kick is well saved and then Sunderland try counter through Jack Diamond, but Greaves is there to defend well.

82' - Free kick well won by Andy Cannon. Few around it for Hull City...

80' - Will Jarvis is now on for Docherty. Can the young man impress in the last ten minutes?

79' - KLP and Docherty almost combine but Ellis Taylor blasts clear for Sunderland. Hull City the ones who are putting the pressure on now.

78' - Emmanuel and Snelgrove trying to link up down this right hand side.

77' - Hull's corner comes to nothing as Docherty looks for the sliding pass, but it goes out for a goal kick.

75' - Pace of the game is slowing down a bit now. Hull City still giving the ball away too easily, though.

Sunderland subs - Grigg on for Stewart, and then Ellis Taylor comes on for Carl Winchester.

73' - Looks like Lewie Coyle has gone down now. Last thing McCann needs, that! He is walking off. On comes Matty Jacob who will go to left back with Emmanuel presumably switching again to RB.

72' - Snelgrove puts in Coyle, but his cross is too deep for Longman and Sunderland clear.

69' - First real bit of quality sees Hull City draw level. Ball in from Coyle sees Josh Magennis tuck the ball home - but it looks like he's gone off with a niggle. Macauley Snelgrove comes on for the Northern Ireland International.

JOSH MAGENNIS!!!!!!

68' - Good play from Longman, but Sunderland JUST get there to defend. Good spell from Hull. Younger then block KLP's effort.

67' - CLOSE! KLP with an effort after a short corner. Just too high from the Hull youngster.

66' - Winchester and Docherty battle hard for the ball. Sunderland still in control here.

64' - High and wide from Sunderland and then Hull give it away yet again. They aren't really keeping hold of the ball yet... they'll need to improve quickly if they are to hit the ground running next week!

62' - CLOSE! Longman with the best chance for Hull. Put in by Cannon. He should do better there...

60' - Off comes Embleton for Jack Diamond. Younger on as well for Sunderland

57' - CHANCE! KLP's effort is high and wide after Longman's deep cross.

56' - Embleton caught in two minds and the chance for Sunderland is gone.

55' - Grant McCann can be heard over the commentary berating the fourth official. He wasn't happy there, but he's no doubt frustrated with his own team's performance. Hull have been poor today.

54' - Keane Lewis Potter just can't get to the ball and the chance for Hull goes begging. Good cross from Coyle before it...

51' - Embleton crosses well but Hull defend again. They really do need to look after the ball a lot better...

50' - Sunderland play a free kick early but Hull defend well. Sunderland corner to come...

49' - Coyle and Emmanuel have switched sides at full back. Magennis thinks he's in - but the offside flag goes up.

47' - Better cross from Coyle, but no-one on the end. Hull starting the brighter in this second half...

46' - Cannon has a shot from distance, but Magennis gets in the way of his own teammate's effort!

45' - Ryan Longman aggressive in attack, and lays it back for Coyle - but his cross is poor.

Aiden O'Brien is on, Corry Evans is off for Sunderland...

TEAMS ARE OUT FOR THE SECOND HALF!

Good half from Sunderland who have done a number on Hull City so far. Ross Stewart scored the only goal of the game so far after Elliot Embleton played him in. Couple of moments where Sunderland have looked shaky at the back, but Grant McCann will be the unhappier of the two managers.

43' - Hull have the ball at the back but there doesn't look to be a way through. Long balls up to Longman or Magennis haven't worked very well...

42' - GOALMOUTH SCRAMBLE! Hull eventually get it clear and then win a free kick to slow play down.

41' - SAVE! Embleton again forces Ingram into a save. Corner coming up for Sunderland...

40' - SAVE! Embelton forces Ingram into a good save from the edge of the area.

40' - MISS! Docherty puts the ball well wide from the corner.

38' - Carl Winchester defends well against KLP and City win a corner. Cannon to take...

37' - Sunderland still trying to carve out openings. Hull have had a couple of half chances, but the League One side have definitely had the better of the play.

36' - WIDE! Andy Cannon has a go at re-creating his cracker at the weekend, but it goes high and wide.

34' - Great defending from Emmanuel and City win a free kick with no advantage on.

33' - Ambitious from Sunderland and the long ball wide doesn't come off. I'm sure Lee Johnson will be happy with this so far, however.

32' - Hull build play up well, but a poor cross from Emmanuel gifts Sunderland the ball back. 

29' - Coyle is fouled and City manage to survive. Sunderland definitely look the more likely to score again...

28' - Last ditch tackle from Lewie Coyle prevents Gooch from a clear chance. Good defending.

27' - CHANCE! Josh Magennis puts the ball over after being played in behind. Should have done better there...

26' - Ross Stewart gives Sunderland the lead after Hull again give the ball away in midfield. Just as City were starting to dominate...

Sunderland 1-0 Hull City

25' - City now trying to control the play, but oh no...

24' - Ross Stewart clears the Hull corner but the away side are still pressing...

23' - Good play from Hull, and Emmanuel wins the corner off Dan Neil.

22' - Sunderland have packed the midfield and are trying to press high. 

22' - City give the ball away again, but Sunderland then reciprocate. Coyle now with the ball for City...

20' - Both sides giving the ball away too easily and not looking after it. Smallwood gives it away and then Stewart is easily dispossessed. Both sides seem a bit rusty.

19' - Nerves at the back for Sunderland. Eventually Magennis has a shot that is saved by the keeper, but that was a little bit of a let off for the home side.

18' - O'Nein deemed to have been fouled and Sunderland get the free kick.

17' - Hull City win the throw in the Sunderland half. Emmanuel takes it, and then Hull win another one.

15' - Hawkes loses possession, but yet again Hull City give the ball away easily. Can't imagine Grant McCann is too happy with his side's start. The front three have barely had a touch of the ball...

14' - KLP crosses too deep, Longman then puts it into the area but Sunderland clear.

13' - Sunderland player given offside. Hull now look to build - they've barely had the ball so far. You'd expect Sunderland to tire and Hull to start to come into this...

12' - Gooch and Winchester combine well but Emmanuel and Ingram combine to save Hull. 

11' - Doyle again saves the home side as Magennis looked to get a shot in.

11' - Josh Hawkes can't stop the ball from going out for a Hull City throw. Emmanuel takes, but again the Tigers give possession back to Sunderland.

10' - Stewart and Ingram collide and the keeper gets the free kick. Didn't look to be much in that, but City now trying to keep the ball for a while.

9' - Sunderland again trying to build from the back. They give it away, but Doyle then nabs the ball back quickly.

8' - CHANCE! Gooch and Embleton link up well but the latter blasts wide. Good chance.

7' - Sunderland started with high amounts of energy. Winchester and Greaves challenge hard in a 50/50 just now.

6' - Actually, Lewie Coyle is left back and Josh Emmanuel is right back for all you City fans following.

5' - Hull City have the first chance of the game. Longman cut inside and shot after a lofted ball from Smallwood. Good effort from the Brighton loanee.

4' - Stewart still on the deck, but sat up. Looks like he will be able to continue and he high-fives Ingram, as the challenge wasn't a malicious one.

3' - Sunderland controlling the early stages. They get it forward to Ross Stewart, but he gets cleaned out by Ingram in the Hull goal who does get the ball first.

3' - Hull try and find Magennis but the ball goes out for a goal kick.

2' - Sunderland try switch the play but it goes out for a Hull throw.

1' - Sunderland have control of the ball and look to get it forward in the early stages.

Here we go... nearly here now! Both teams are out on the pitch. Sunderland and Hull City are both in their home kits, with City wearing Amber shorts...

Dan Neil and Carl Winchester are both usually midfielders - but they're left and right back respectively tonight.

Matty Jacob provided the assist for Magennis against Mansfield, but Will Jarvis could be a big one tonight. He came on for the U23 squad on Tuesday to net twice in the 3-1 win against Pickering, and I think he's one to watch.

Snelgrove and Beckett make up the bench, who are both exciting players too.

Sunderland's line up is affected by illness, but Hull City's line up seems strong. Strangely, Josh Emmanuel is at left back - which must mean Brandon Fleming will play in the friendly tomorrow, same as Tom Huddlestone who is still training with the Tigers.

Around 40 minutes to kick off!

So, Sunderland will line up with an unfamiliar XI due to illness. Corry Evans starts in midfield though, as well as the dangerous Elliot Embleton and Lynden Gooch in the more offensive midfield positions.

Will Grigg and Jack Diamond are on the bench, but no McGeady - who I hear has been nursing a knee problem.

A few changes from Grant McCann tonight.

Ingram is in goal, with the back four consisting of Coyle, Greaves, Jones and Emmanuel - playing on the opposite side, interestingly.

Smallwood, Docherty and Cannon are in midfield, with Lewis-Potter, Longman and Magennis up front. Longman was particularly good against Scunthorpe at the weekend.

It's a young bench, but no Olly Green - which must mean he is going to feature against Manchester United U23's in the behind closed doors game tomorrow.

Kick-off for tonight's game is scheduled at 19:00 BST.

The last time these two sides met, it was back at the end of the League One season. Sunderland twice took the lead at the KCOM Stadium - now the MKM Stadium - with the Tigers clawing back each time through Josh Magennis. It was an end-to-end game that did little for either side's promotion credentials at the time, with Hull City eventually winning the league and Sunderland losing in the Play-off Semi Final against Lincoln City.

Hull City: Ingram; Coyle, Jones, Greaves, Fleming; Smallwood, Docherty, Moncur; Lewis-Potter, Williams, Magennis.

The Tigers played two friendlies last weekend on the same day with two different squads. They lost at home to Mansfield Town 1-2 - despite being the better team - and won away to Scunthorpe United 1-0. This will be a stern test for them against a side who will be desperate to get out of League One this season.

Sunderland played Hull City three times last season in the League Cup and in League One, with all games finishing as a draw. 

Sunderland vs Hull City match will be played at the Stadium of Light, England, with a capacity of 49,000 people - however, we expect nowhere near a full house for this match.
