Warnock pleased with his sides endeavour

"I think if there had been another five minutes, we would've won it!

"It's a good start, and the fans were brilliant; it's the start we've been missing.

"He's [Bola] had a tough pre-season, but he's scored a brilliant goal - I don't think a striker could've struck it any better."

Wilson frustrated with the result despite debut goal

FT Boro late surge earns them a point!

For three-quarters of that game, Fulham were in control and on the way to an opening day victory, but Middlesbrough fought hard, and some inspired subs from Warnock earned his side a point!

The game came to life towards the end as both sides had chances to win the game! Classic Championship football!

90+1' Boro applying the pressure

Five added minutes to go in this one, and it's the visitors who look more likely to score again! How the tables have turned!
15:202 months ago

87' Big chance for Boro to steal all three points!

Brilliant awareness from captain Howson to steal the ball and lay it on for Tavernier to shoot on the edge of the box.

He had the space and the time, but the substitute could not find the target! Big opportunity wasted!

15:152 months ago

82' Wilson with another chance!

The Welsh winger has been at the heart of everything for Fulham this afternoon, and he ran through on Boro goal again, but Bola was there again to bundle him over as he went to shoot. Mitrovic followed up but shot over!

No foul given, and the scores remain level!

77' GOAL BORO! BOLA FINDS THE EQUALISER!

Great work by the substitutes Tavernier and Jones to set up the chance for Bola to fire a first-time effort past Gazzaniga, who has had nothing to do the whole game!

Fulham have been on top but have not been able to capitalise on their dominance in the second half, and out of nowhere, we are all square!

15:082 months ago

76' First sub for Fulham

The Whites' top scorer from last season, Decordova-Reid, comes on for Kebano, who has had a solid game on his return to the Fulham side.
15:052 months ago

71' Another change from Warnock

Isaiah Jones replaces Morsy as Warnock tries to ignite a spark in his team who toil for an equaliser!
15:012 months ago

68' Wilson goes close to a second!

A beautifully shaped cross from Kebano almost finds the goalscorer Wilson for his second of the game.

Still, Bola just does enough to prevent the winger from getting anything on the ball as it evaded the onrushing 'keeper Lumley! Close!

14:562 months ago

63' Big chance for Kebano!

Fulham look comfortable in this game, but they would like another goal to ease the nerves!

Kebano went close to providing that second goal - he had a free header in front of goal but he could not direct the ball either side of Lumley who collected the ball easily!

14:482 months ago

55' Changes for Boro

Ikpeazu and Watmore have struggled to get into the game, and Warnock has noticed this, replacing them with Tavernier and Spence.

Potentially a change of shape here for the visitors!

14:472 months ago

54' Carvalho fires over!

The highly-rated youngster finds some space on the edge of the box to fire, but his shot goes high and wide of the Boro goal!

Fulham are on top here!

14:452 months ago

52' Wilson causing issues once again

Middlesbrough defender Marc Bola has had a torrid time marking Wilson, and the Fulham man gets the wrong side of his defender once again to win a free-kick.

Mitrovic manages to get a boot on the subsequent set-piece, but he can't direct it goalwards!

14:432 months ago

50' Penalty shouts for Fulham!

18-year-old Fabio Carvalho makes a darting run into the box and is brought down by Sam Morsy as he receives the ball!

There are shouts for a penalty to be awarded around the ground but the referee waves away any appeals!

WATCH: Harry Wilson's first Fulham goal!

14:202 months ago

HT Wilson the difference so far!

It's been a game of few chances on either end so far, but some individual brilliance from new signing Harry Wilson has the home side ahead at the break!

Middlesbrough are yet to have a shot on target, but they have by no means been dominated by Fulham. If they can improve creatively in the attacking third, the visitors can still get something from this!

14:142 months ago

42' Boro in the game but not threatening

Warnock's men have responded well to going a goal down, but they just have not been able to create any clear-cut chances so far!

Ikpeazu and Watmore have been isolated and have not had many touches so far!

29' GOAL FULHAM! HARRY WILSON ON DEBUT!

Wilson has shown his full arsenal in this opening 30 minutes for his new team!

Lovely feet from the young midfielder to evade his marker and slot the ball into the bottom corner with a left-footed strike from just outside the box! Lovely!

Tensions beginning to flare on the benches as Kevin Blackwell and Luis Boa-Morte receive bookings from the referee!
13:552 months ago

Great strike from Wilson

13:532 months ago

22' Rasping volley from Wilson!

The first effort of any real conviction in the game comes from the Fulham debutant Harry Wilson!

Wonderful control and connection on the ball from the midfielder, but Joe Lumley was equal to it in the Boro goal!

13:482 months ago

18' Fulham ramping up the pressure!

Paddy McNair is booked for a strong challenge on Kenny Tete as Fulham are beginning to have more joy in an attacking sense!

McNair was called into action early to block a shot from Kebano, and the Middlesbrough team have dropped a bit deeper in the last five!

13:422 months ago

12' Direct approach from Boro asking questions

The visitors have adopted a no-nonsense, route one approach to start the game, with a man-marking high press while out of possession.

It's nullified Fulham so far and Boro have had the ball in dangerous positions in the attacking third on a few occasions!

13:372 months ago

5' Early scare for Fulham! Strong back-pass!

Some early game nerves perhaps for Antonee Robinson as Gazzaniga is forced to stretch and divert the ball out for a corner as his full-back played the ball back at pace!
13:332 months ago

2' Quick booking for Mitrovic

There is no doubting the big Serbian striker loves a challenge, and he goes straight into an aerial duel with Howson!

His shoulder connects with the Boro captain's head, and he receives a yellow! Not the start he would have wanted.

13:312 months ago

1' We're underway in West London!

Plenty of exciting debutants on both sides, and the sun is shining on the Craven Cottage pitch!

Can Mitrovic continue his great Championship form?

Joint-top goalscorer in the league in Fulham's last promotion campaign with 26, but just three goals in the Premier League last season.

The stats suggest Mitrovic is made for this division, so can he lead the West Londoners to a swift return to the top flight? He leads the line this afternoon!

Can Ikpeazu score the goals for Boro?

Uche Ikepeazu has never been a prolific goalscorer in his career, with the most he's managed in one season being 13.

However, Warnock's teams historically don't rely on one player to score the bulk of the goals; for example, Callum Paterson top-scored with 10 in Warnock's last promotion with Cardiff City.

Will Ikpeazu play a similar role in this team?

12:472 months ago

Will Harry Wilson be up to speed?

For a cut-price of £12m, Fulham have picked up a great player for this level in Harry Wilson, but with just 11 minutes of pre-season football under his belt, it's certainly a risk to start him from the off!

Paulo Gazzaniga also debuts in goal ahead of Marek Rodak, who was brilliant in Fulham's last promotion campaign. Some bold picks from Silva in his first game!

Howson retains armband for the new season!

Opening day win good omen for Warnock!

Warnock has a poor opening day record as a manager, having won the first fixture in just four of the last 15 league seasons in which he’s managed on matchday one (D6 L5).

However, an opening day win has been a good omen in the past for the Middlesbrough boss, who has gone on to win promotion in three of the four seasons he's started with a win!

Warnock excited for the new season

Middlesbrough gaffer Warnock spoke about the club's summer dealings and his excitement heading into a new campaign with a young squad.

"We're a bit thin on the ground at the moment," Warnock explained. "But they're a good group of lads. We've got to try and have some fun this year.

"We’re looking to have a good go, and we’re hoping to get a few more lads in before the window closes.

“Sammy hasn’t trained; he has an injury at the moment which doesn’t look good.

“Other than that, the lads that have come in have done really well. They are not glamorous signings, but they are what you call bread and butter signings.

“Two or three others we’ve been close to a few times, and I’m sure we’ll get them before the end of the window.

“It’s just an exciting time, and I think everyone is really looking forward to it.” [Quotes from gazettelive.co.uk]

Silva looking to make a lasting impact at Fulham

Silva spoke to Sky Sports about his ambitions for this season:

"You can speak about many things around football," said Silva. "But the main thing is always the results. Our aim as a club is clear - we want to fight to be in the Premier League, but many clubs want the same."

"Those that have just been relegated are always talked up as being in the mix to be promoted, but there are many examples in the past where that hasn't happened. We have to be strong, and in terms of our philosophy, we are learning something new every season.

"We have to try to be a consistent team and try to get the best out of our players. It's something we've managed to do at previous clubs. I like playing offensive football, but we have to have a balance.

"We want to play attractive football but to win games in the Championship; you need the desire and commitment. That's the main thing."

Middlesbrough team news

Warnock is likely to start with a 3-5-2 system he has deployed throughout pre-season, with new arrival Ikpeazu in line to make his debut as a strike partner to Duncan Watmore up top, with Marcus Browne still recovering from a knee operation. Academy graduate Hayden Coulson is also unavailable due to Covid-19 protocols.

Matt Crooks could also make his debut in midfield while Warnock has a decision to make at right-back with three players in Anfernee Dijksteel, Djed Spence and Darnell Fisher all vying for the starting spot on Sunday.

Fulham team news

Marek Rodak, who starred when the Whites were promoted two seasons ago, will likely return to the starting goalkeeper spot after serving as a backup to loanee Alphonse Areola during their Premier League campaign. However, new arrival Paulo Gazzaniga will also be vying for that spot.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has been heavily linked with a move away but could still feature, or even start, on opening day. Highly-rated versatile winger Harry Wilson should make his debut after joining on a £12m deal from Liverpool.

Are the play-offs achievable for Boro?

Neil Warnock holds the record as a manager for the most promotions in English football with eight, so Middlesbrough have the right man in charge to achieve such a feat this season.

The Teesside club have bolstered in important positions this summer. They also have an influx of academy products coming through at the right to make a push for something greater than their 10th place finish last time out.

20:402 months ago

Three Championship promotions in a row?

The last two Championship campaigns, which Fulham have been a part of, have ended in promotion for the Whites.

The West Londoners have had a far-from ideal pre-season, with unexpected managerial changes and more player outgoings than arrivals.

However, this squad still has the quality to return to the top flight - Harry Wilson should be a great addition to the team for just £12m.
