Chris Hughton pre-match comments

Chris Hughton spoke to the Forest website ahead of today's game.

Hughton said: "The fairest thing to say at this point of the season is that we want to make progress on last season.

"There isn't a manager in the division that wouldn't want to start the season with a win and a good performance as we know that a strong start can be important for momentum.

"We want to be much more competitive this season and challenging more. You always have to build towards something and we've been building towards that first game (on Sunday).

"I've really enjoyed working with the group this pre-season and we're all very much looking forward to the campaign ahead."

On the opposition: "Coventry have a good side and an outstanding manager.

"I thought they were a very good side last season and we had two tough games against them.

"They have a lot of different variations in their offensive play. They've recruited well in the summer and I think it will be a very tough game."

Mark Robins pre-match comments

Coventry boss Mark Robins spoke to the club's website about today's game.

He said: “It’s good to be back in Coventry and playing in front of supporters and I think there is going to be quite a few there against Forest and it’s going to be a brilliant game to start with."

On this season's prospects: “The team has given us everything and we’ve built a strong team that’s together and they give everything so that’s all you can really ask.

“There is a bit of quality sprinkled in there and now we’ve had a year in the Championship it should stand us in good stead. If we can build on what we did last season then we are in for a treat.”

On the opposition: “Forest are a big club, they’ve been outside of the top-flight a long time, but they have wealthy backers, and they have some good players.

“During pre-season they have utilised their academy, which is strong like ours. They are always tough defensively with Chris, they must be up there with conceding the least number of goals last season.

“With Joe Worrall, Lewis Grabban, Lyle Taylor, Joe Lolley, Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson, they have some really good players with a lot of talent.”

Previous meetings

The last meeting between the sides was in February at St Andrew's which Forest won 2-1.

It was the same scoreline when they met at the City Ground, with Coventry's last victory in this fixture coming in 2011. However, there was only one other meeting before that due to the Sky Blues' time out of the second division.

Key player for Nottingham Forest

20-year-old Brennan Johnson helped Lincoln reach the League One play-offs last season and could be valuable to Forest this campaign.

He scored 11 goals and provided five assists while on loan with the Imps and has attracted interest from Premier League clubs this summer.

12:162 months ago

Key player for Coventry City

Summer signing Martyn Waghorn is a player that could be key for Coventry this season.

The 31-year-old scored 26 league goals over three seasons at Derby and can play centre forward or out wide.

His ability from set pieces will no doubt come in handy for the Sky Blues.

12:112 months ago

Who will be the referee and his assistants?

The referee for this game is James Linington. His assistants are Nigel Lugg and Rob Smith, while Ollie Yates is the fourth official.
12:062 months ago

Forest will be wanting to improve on last season

Like Coventry, Forest will be hoping for a better campaign this time around.

They finished one place below the Sky Blues last season, but manager Chris Hughton has experience getting out of this division.

One player that could make the difference is youngster Brennan Johnson, who enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Lincoln City last season.

12:012 months ago

Coventry looking to build on last season's survival

The Sky Blues finished in a respectable 16th place last season in their first year back in the second tier.

Mark Robins' men will be hoping to finish even higher this campaign, which could be possible with the help of their summer recruits.

One player who will be eager to get on the scoresheet against Forest is ex-Derby forward Martyn Waghorn.

The match will be played at the Coventry Building Society Arena

After playing last season's home games at Birmingham City's St Andrew's, Coventry return to their usual home for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

Formerly known as the Ricoh Arena, the Coventry Building Society Arena has a maximum capacity of 32,753.
