Just a few weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga was ready to go on a season-long loan to Turkish side Galatasaray

Following a great performance by the 22 year-old in the Premier League opener against Manchester City, Tanganga has earned Nuno Espírito Santo's trust, and is ready to compete for a starting spot this season.

According to Football Insider, the London native will no longer be leaving Hotspur Way on loan this month. The Portuguese manager, Nuno has changed his stance and will now give him the opportunity to become first-choice at right-back.

Performance vs Man City

While playing on the right side against the defending champions on matchweek #1, Tanganga was voted Man Of The Match by the Spurs supporters in just his 14th Premier League start ever.

He also won 11 duels,  two clearances, gained possession five times, and completed 18 out of the 20 passes he made.

"I think (Japhet Tanganga) did well," Nuno said after the game. "All the team was great today but he was huge. He faced so many one on ones."

'Japh' did not have an easy task while playing against City, but did really well handling the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish without even getting a yellow card.

Tanganga's aggressiveness when recovering balls is what made the Tottenham supporters root for him the hardest throughout the entire game.

Reaction

"Japhet Tanganga, he's one of our own" was the most popular chant at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"It's amazing. Like I said, you know we felt the presence of the fans, They were amazing today," said the 22-year-old. "I am just glad they recognised the work we put in and obviously we gave them a win today and three points on the board as well.

It's an amazing feeling. As a kid you hear on TV and dream about these things. To happen to you it's an amazing feeling. Honestly walking around I had chills. I had to contain myself and make sure I came around to the bench.

It was an amazing feeling and I really appreciate it."
