FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Brentford

The Bees will be delighted that they have been able to go two Premier League games in a row without conceding, alongside the fact that they're unbeaten.

Following their 70 year hiatus from England's top-flight, Brentford couldn't ask for a much better start to the season.

However, Palace's new era has failed to get started so far. A 0-0 draw today will be excruciatingly disappointing for the lively crowd that welcomed the team this afternoon.

A lacklustre display sums up the entirety of the game. Despite this, it must be said that Conor Gallagher looked exceptional for large periods of the game, and it is a shame he couldn't lift his team to their first competitive victory under Vieira.

90' Added time announced

Let's forget about this game, it hasn't been the greatest watch, but we have four minutes added on to see a goal.
16:48a month ago

87' Second change for Brentford

Mads Bidstrup is on in place of Vitaly Janet.
16:45a month ago

84' Ayew blasts over

Benteke chips a delightful ball into Ayew, who chooses to put his laces through the ball, but ends up blasting the ball over the stand. Patrick Vieira hasn't stopped communicating to his team from the sidelines this half, but there's still no sign of a goal!
16:44a month ago

82' Corner. Palace.

Zaha's slid cross towards Ayew brings a free kick in front of the lively Holmesdale End.

It, unfortunately, comes to nothing, as perhaps expected...

16:39a month ago

77' Wissa on for Mbuemo

Brentford make their second change of the day - an attacking response to their momentum shift.
16:37a month ago

75' Yellow card for Joel Ward

As the visitors look increasingly more likely to score a goal, Ward brings down a Brentford attacker to halt their attack and conceded a free-kick, alongside a yellow card.
16:36a month ago

73' No one's on the end of it for the away side!

Ivan Toney finds himself with the ball in behind the Palace defence, but he is too far wide to take a shot, so opts to slide the ball across the face of the goal.

Had his fellow attackers been more alert, a goal could have been scored. Please, we all want a goal...

70' First change for the Bees

Frank Onyeka has put in a good shift this afternoon but his day looks set to be over. On comes Saman Ghoddos in his place.
16:30a month ago

68' Sub for Palace

Ayew has replaced Schlupp on the wing. Presumably, Zaha will now shift over to the left flank while Ayew slots in on the right.
16:29a month ago

67' Over by Toney

Guaita decides to leave his line as the corner comes in, and it proves to be the wrong decision as he misses the punch. Luckily for the Eagles, the game remains goalless as Toney's effort is headed over.

16:28a month ago

66' Corner for Brentford

Still no sign of many clear-cut chances at either end, but a corner for the visitors will hope to ignite a spark. Kouyate does well to defend the attack.
16:22a month ago

60' Wide from Mbuemo

The setpiece from the training ground came to nothing as Mbuemo scooped his shot wide. The ball was always curling, but the shot was too tame from the moment it left the Brentford man's foot.
16:20a month ago

58' Free-kick in a promising area for Brentford

A coming together between Onyeka and Benteke on the edge of the box gives Brentford the free-kick, while Benteke is brandished a yellow card.
16:16a month ago

54' Over by Benteke

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No... it was Christian Benteke's leap!

Joel Ward found the room for a cross on the touchline. It was high and direct, causing concern to the Bees backline, but Benteke was unable to leap high enough to head downwards.

The ball floated just over the bar.

16:14a month ago

51' Yellow card for Norgaard

Palace did well to ride the initial challenge of Norgaard, giving them the nod from the referee to play on, but Zaha was unable to capitalise.

For those interested in Palace's first-half performance...

16:08a month ago

47' Brentford corner

In the first two minutes of the half, Palace have only touched the ball once... it seems. And that was to turn the ball behind for a Bees corner.
16:06a month ago

And the ball is rolling for the commencement of the second period of play. Let's hope the chances get better, and we see some goals in this half!

No changes for either side...

An update on the Premier League

15:51a month ago

HT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Brentford

Although Crystal Palace were in the ascendancy for the majority of the first half, and despite Gallagher's efforts to touch every blade of grass, the Eagles go into the interval goalless.

Brentford, meanwhile, have been unable to convert any of their half-hearted chances into goals. While the home side have looked bright and intuitive, the visitors have failed to get a grip on the tie.

Vieira will be the happier of the two coaches at halftime, but he will hope that his Eagles can find their first goal of the season in the second period.

15:48a month ago

45' Ivan Toney!... saved

With Brentford still struggling to find any openings in a tight-knit defence, Toney's scuffed volley from a mixup in play falls straight into Guaita's hands. Looks like it'll go to the break all square.
15:45a month ago

42' Stoppage for a clash of heads

Everything looks to be alright, but we have had to pause play after Janelt and Kouyate bumped heads in a collision.
15:42a month ago

40' Close from Mbuemo

Mbuemo's free-kick skims the top of Vicente Guaita's crossbar. Only five minutes to go until the break.
15:40a month ago

38' Free-kick near the corner flag for the Bees

Kouyate goes in heavily on Onyeka, giving the referee no choice but to award the free kick. The Brentford man made the most of it, ensuring he won something.

15:38a month ago

35' Corner for Brentford

There still hasn't really been a noteworthy chance for the Bees, while Palace's resolute defensive work keeps them away from clear-cut opportunities.

Again, they settle for a setpiece, but nothing comes of their efforts.

15:34a month ago

30' Comfortable catch from Guaita

Brentford had just got a couple of chances here, but while Palace have been vastly in the ascendancy in the opening half-hour, Guaita's catch from a cross that was guided in the path of Toney was dealt with at relative ease.

Palace were quick to pounce on a chance of their own at the other end, but Gallagher's shot was tame into the centre of the goal.

15:30a month ago

26' It's still all Palace

The expansive brand of football that Vieira has instilled into this game is in full flow at the moment, and it's such a refreshing sight for those who have become accustomed to timeworn British managers.

There is still a little bit of untidiness in midfield, with both teams battling valiantly for the ball, but Palace are always looking to quicken up the passing and they look comfortable to play on the front foot.

15:21a month ago

18' Conor Gallagher is some next-level box to box midfielder

Yes, he's a box-to-box midfielder, but I can't say I expected this from him. Covering every blade of grass, making tackles and passes at every opportunity, Gallagher is completely bossing this match so far.

His ominous presence across the pitch is already lifting the eyelids of many Crystal Palace supporters. Absolutely brilliant.

15:17a month ago

14' What a block from the new boy

Just as Brentford looked to unleash a strike, Gallagher came into the frame stopped them from getting one away emphatically.

If there was an early impression of the new boy that I had, it's that he certainly doesn't lack the desire in his engine.

15:11a month ago

9' Toney... wide

Patrick Vieira's home side look way more comfortable so far, but Brentford found some room to counter themselves. Lacking the composure that he became synonymous with last season, Ivan Toney dragged his shot just wide of the target.
15:10a month ago

7' Post by Gallagher!

Cheikhou Kouyate plays a searching ball into Zaha, who chooses to play another ball into the new boy. Conor Gallagher rifles the ball onto the outside of the post.

What a debut that would have been!

15:08a month ago

6' Zaha finds some space

Wilfried Zaha, who is playing down the Palace right this afternoon, found some legroom on his flank, but his combination play with Benteke comes to nothing of note.

Lots of hard tackles going on in midfield, but Palace look more in control.

What an atmosphere...

1' Corner for Palace

As the crowd get behind their team, the Eagles have won their first corner of the game after Brentford turn away a Jeffrey Schlupp cross into Benteke.

They opt to play short, which turns out to be the wrong option.

Team news: Brentford

Thomas Frank has stated that all the players that played against Arsenal on day one are available for selection against the Eagles.

Mathias Jensen trained partly in midweek with the group but is still not available. Meanwhile, Wissa is expected to make the squad.

Team news: Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Conor Gallagher will be available to face Brentford at Selhurst Park, with the recent signing’s debut delayed when Palace faced his parent club Chelsea last week.

Elsewhere, the Frenchman placed his praises on Joachim Andersen - who is fitter than before last week's substitute appearance.

The story between these two clubs is short

Despite both playing their football in England's vibrant capital, tomorrow's fixture sees the two clubs face off in a competition for the first time since August 1982.

Interestingly, if the Bees can gain all three points, they will become only the fourth team to win their first two games in their debut Premier League season.

This track record will follow in the footsteps of Huddersfield Town in the 2017/18 season and Coventry City and Norwich City in 1992/93.

Brentford: More of the same will more than do

Under the pragmatic tinkering of Thomas Frank in the Championship last season, Brentford experienced a fairytale season which left the Premier League summoning them for the first time in the club's history.

After their 70 year topflight hiatus, the Bees find themselves at the pinnacle of English football, and a 2-0 triumph against Arsenal last week will give them hope that more is still to come.

Goals from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard set the ball rolling for a promising campaign.

In a performance that done much to lift the eyelids of neutrals, Brentford looked more than capable of being Premier League mainstays, but they must now focus on staying consistent.

Crystal Palace: A morale boost is needed

After defeat on the opening day, the hopeful souls of Crystal Palace fans, who had expected more from their new-look outfit, took a humbling blow.

But what was expected against a Thomas Tuchel side that won the Champions League in the season that came before?

This week, however, provides the perfect gateway for the Eagles to kickstart their first campaign of the new era.

Brentford's newly promoted vessel cruised to a 2-0 victory at home to Arsenal last time out, but a trip across the Thames to pay their noisy neighbours a visit could provide the catharsis to Patrick Vieira's new voyage.

The Match will be played at a full Selhurst Park

The Crystal Palace vs Brentford match will be played at a sold-out Selhurst Park, where the Eagles will look to reap the rewards of a full Holmesdale end for the first time since the genesis of the global pandemic.

Fans are back, football is back, and we can't wait to see the  far tip of Croydon rocking once again.
