FT: Aston Villa 2-0 Newcastle

The full time whistle blows at Villa Park, and it's Aston Villa who grab their first three points of the season with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle.

Danny Ings gave Villa the lead on the stroke of half-time with a sensational bicycle-kick, a goal that was followed by a penalty converted by Anwar El Ghazi on the hour mark.

Despite being second best, Newcastle will feel aggrieved after not being awarded a penalty and be playing against ten-men for the last 15 minutes – after Emi Martinez cleaned out Callum Wilson in the box and was only awarded a yellow card, before the penalty was overturned for a tight offside.

But, it's Villa who take the points, meaning The Magpies have start the new campaign with two straight league defeats...

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Prediction

With the season being so young, it makes this game even harder to call than it would be usually!

Aston Villa are the better side on paper – but potentially with three to four new signings starting once again tomorrow for the hosts, it could be case of Newcastle catching their opponents at a good time, with those new players still bedding into the side.

Steve Bruce's men will have to improve significantly on their second half showing at the weekend, but if they do, I'm going to go with The Magpies to snatch a huge away victory.

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle United

Previous meeting between Aston Villa and Newcastle

The last time these two teams met was back in March, where Jamaal Lascelles' 94th minute header rescued a point for Newcastle after Ciaran Clark's own goal gave Aston Villa the lead with just four minutes to go at St James' Park.

Key player of Newcastle

Newcastle's star player Allan Saint-Maximin is undoubtedly the one-to-watch for Steve Bruce's men tomorrow night.

Saint-Maximin is one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League with his raw pace and dribbling ability – and will be looking to notch up a similar assist to the one he got for Callum Wilson's opener last Sunday at Villa Park tomorrow.

21:45a month ago

Key player of Aston Villa

The key player to watch from a Villa perspective is new striker Danny Ings, a player who got off the mark from the penalty spot last weekend against Watford.

Ings is known as one of the best finishers in the division – netting 34 goals in his last two seasons at Southampton – and is one of the hot favourites to score in front of the fans at Villa Park tomorrow afternoon.

Newcastle in search of their first win of the season

Villa seeking a victory in front of a sold out home crowd

Despite the sale of star player Jack Grealish to Manchester City this summer, Aston Villa bounced into Vicarage Road for their season opener last weekend against Watford with resounding confidence after bringing in Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings; players who significantly strengthen the side.

But those exciting new arrivals couldn't stop Dean Smith's side from falling to a 3-2 defeat against the newly-promoted side – and they will be looking to bounce back against Newcastle tomorrow in front of a sold out Villa Park.
