Final-Time: Southampton FC 0-0 West Ham United

Well, still unbeaten though(?)

On a real note, that was awful. Zero intent from West Ham who were happy with the point since the first minute of the game.

Capped off with an idiotic red card from Michail Antonio.

Bye.

90’+ West Ham red card

Aaaand Michail Antonio’s off following a second yellow card.

He will now miss the Hammers’ next game - a home game against  high-flying Manchester United.

Thankfully, David Moyes signed a striker in the just-finished transfer window.

Oh wait.

90’+

Well, that was a heart-attack.

Ward-Prowse’s corner was nearly turned in by Broja but Declan Rice was there to clear off the line.

16:5011 days ago

90’+

Angelo Ogbonna was down on the pitch following a clash of heads with Broja, so there’s FIVE added minutes.

86’

Another chance for the hosts.

Great cross towards Elyounoussi but Vladimir Coufal was there first and blocked it.

16:4211 days ago

83’ West Ham substitution

And here’s WHU’s second sub of the game.

Andriy Yarmolenko on, Jarrod Bowen off.

16:4211 days ago

80’

What a chance that was.

Saints’ clearance came towards Broja as Craig Dawson flew past both the player as well as the ball, the young striker then paced on goal but his shot hit the post.

74’ Southampton substitution

Adam Armstrong is off, replaced by the Chelsea loanee - Armando Broja.

David Moyes’ men are starting to push for the opener now.

Bowen’s strike was just tipped over the bar by McCarthy, who seconds later caught a dangerous ball following a corner.

16:2311 days ago

65’

And he’s off a good start! Good play down the left from the Croatian but his cross was just a bit too strong for Antonio.
16:2211 days ago

63’ West Ham substitution

Said Benrahma makes way for Nikola Vlasić, who is making his Premier League debut for the Hammers!
16:1911 days ago

61’

Good play from Perraud but his cross was headed high and wide by Armstrong.
16:1211 days ago

52’

Madness.

First, West Ham had a great chance from a corner but the ball flew across the face of the goal before hitting one of the Saints defenders.

Ward-Prowse cleared, Armstrong got to it first feeding Moussa Djenepo, but the winger took too long and the attack was stopped.

Nathan Redmond tried his luck afterwards but it was high over the bar.

16:0711 days ago

47’

Good chance on a break for the visitors through Benrahma but he was blocked off before being able to get through on goal.

Michail Antonio’s shot which followed was easily saved by McCarthy.

And we’re back underway.

Can this sleepy Saturday afternoon become more lively?

We’ll have to wait and see.

Half-Time: Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Well, that was boring.

Neither team looks like they want it, both look like they’re happy to sit out a draw.

No clear-cut chances as of yet, but that’s about to change in the second-half.

Right?

15:3911 days ago

38’

Great cross from Romain Perraud didn’t find anyone inside the Hammers’ box, and was turned for a corner by Cresswell.

James Ward-Prowse’s delivery was, yet again, inaccurate.

15:3711 days ago

36’

After some good play in possession of the ball, Benrahma tried playing Antonio through.

The striker nearly buldozed his way between three players but ultimately failed to do so.

15:3311 days ago

32’

Jarrod Bowen picked the ball up after a good recovery from Antonio, but his shot was blocked.

The following corner was cleared, before Declan Rice’s cross was caught by Alex McCarthy.

15:2511 days ago

24’

Tino Livramento’s cross was looking to curl straight into the top corner but, fortunately for West Ham, it flew just in Fabiański's reach.
15:2411 days ago

22’

Djenepo tried his luck from distance but Craig Dawson headed clear.

From the following corner, Pablo Fornals easily cleared.

15:2111 days ago

20’

Not much happening now, apart from a bit of chaos in the middle of the park.

It’s set to be a very open game so far.

15:1511 days ago

14’

West Ham have enjoyed themselves a good chance off a free-kick after Benrahma was brought down just outside the box, but Cresswell fires it straight into the wall.
15:0911 days ago

7’

Another good chance for the hosts.

Elyounoussi’s dangerous cross was cut out and cleared by Aaron Cresswell.

15:0711 days ago

4’

Chance for Southampton, but Adam Armstrong’s shot was easily gathered by Łukasz Fabiański.
15:0611 days ago

2’

First chance of the game falls to the visitors.

Said Benrahma tried to feed Michail Antonio but his pass was cut out.

The ball then fell back to the Algerian who tried a shot from 25 yards out, but it was blocked by Jack Stephens.

Player to watch

With his outstanding start to the season, Michail Antonio is my "Player to watch". West Ham's new no.9 has so far accumulated four goals, three assists and one Player Of The Month award, and he will most certainly be looking forward to improving all of these accolades very soon.

Previous encounters

The head-to-head record looks very positive for the Hammers, who have won seven out of the previous ten encounters.

The last time Fulham managed to beat their East London opposition was in August 2017.

You can read more about that matchup here.

Current form

The hosts are coming into the game winless, as, so far, they've only managed two points in three games. One of their points came after a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

On the other hand, the visitors are currently sitting in second place in the table, having yet to lose a game. Their highlight of the season has been a 4-1 win against fellow UEFA Europa League contestants, Leicester City.
