Laporte and Stones returned to training on Thursday, but there are no guarantees that they will be available.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will return to the side after missing the last two games with a hip injury.

However, Mason Mount picked up a knock against Villa in midweek and will join Christian Pulisic on the sidelines.

Manager Thomas Tuchel said: "Mason is very disappointed to miss out.

"It happened in the second half against Villa. He played through the injury and finished the game. He was even confident enough to take an important penalty, so it was a surprise to see him with this injury.

"The steps he is taking are huge and maybe if the game was one day later, then he could have played. It's a minor injury but there is disappointment for him and us because he is a player that we count on.

"But no matter the importance, no matter how we rely on him, the task is to find solutions without him and bring him back as soon as possible."

Manchester City looking to leapfrog Chelsea

The Citizens are currently fifth in the league, three points behind Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola's side have won three, drawn one and lost one of their opening five games.

In their last league game, they were held 0-0 at home by Southampton. Saints had a penalty overturned by VAR, while City had a late goal disallowed for offside.

Three points would see the Citizens leapfrog Chelsea.
