Sutton United extended their unbeaten run in EFL League Two as they drew 0-0 with Northampton Town at Gander Green Lane.

The Yellow Army held on for a point despite being reduced to ten men when Craig Eastmond was sent off in the 73rd minute.

Sutton remain third on 44 points while Northampton are one place and two points behind them in the race for automatic promotion.

Story of the match

A 60 second spell in the opening minutes of the match saw Jon Guthrie meet a corner with a header that was saved by Sutton goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis.

His throw sparked a counter attack in which Joe Kizzi sent David Ajiboye through on the right, his cross deflected and was met on the volley by Ali Smith, only for Liam Roberts to make a good save down to his right.

Bouzanis came off his line quickly to parry a shot from Chanka Zimba, who had run on to a Sam Hoskins pass and turned between Ben Goodliffe and Louis John.

A little more than a minute into the second half, Ajiboye passed to Kizzi, who sent in a superb cross that found Will Randall coming in Roberts making another stop and Randall couldn't force home the rebound.

Roberts saved again, this time from a deflected Omar Bugiel shot and Isaac Olaofe's header lacked sufficient power, but Bouzanis had little to do apart from watching a Mitch Pinnock shot curl harmlessly past the post.

The Yellow Army were reduced to ten men when Eastmond's challenge on Pinnock was deemed to be rash even though there was no contact with the Northampton player.

Referee John Busby seemed relatively unconcerned about it until an intervention from reserve official Trevor Kettle and after a brief conference the referee showed Eastmond a red card.

Northampton's two substitutes could both have struck decisive blows, with a sliding Danny Rose just unable to reach Aidan McGowan's low cross, and Dylan Connolly's first touch a swivelling volley which went inches wide.

Man of the match: Both goalkeepers

While both Bouzanis and Roberts didn't have much to do, they came up big when they were called upon to earn their teams a point apiece.
