Patrick Vieira has expressed that his team must "keep concentration and focus, and bounce back from the Chelsea loss" as Crystal Palace travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The emphasis for The Eagles will be placed on maintaining momentum for the rest of the season, with one eye staying fixated on finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League.

They are going into the fixture with only one loss in the league since February, but with two consecutive defeats in all competitions now, there is an air of complacency for the south London club.

Before their soul-crushing FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Easter Sunday, Patrick Vieira's men also suffered a 2-1 loss at Leicester City's King Power Stadium.

During these games, though, Palace have seen the return of familiar faces to their ranks, and with the mood in the camp remaining positive nonetheless, there is an expectation to kick on.

Newcastle United, meanwhile, are looking to extend their home win streak to six games in a row, presenting their visitors with an arduous obstacle.

During this run, Eddie Howe has shown his credible ability to translate his footballing philosophy onto the pitch, with Bruno Guimaraes spearheading a new-look formula since the turn of the year.

A change in direction, catalysed by the Arab-led takeover, has sparked a restoration of the soul at St James' Park, and it suddenly feels like a place back to its best.

For a while now, the black and white of Newcastle have been void of free-scoring teams, but while the dying days of Steve Bruce's reign conjured little conviction by way of getting results, the new era shows the Magpies are more than worthy of grinding through games.

When Howe first took over in November, Newcastle had five points on the board. They now have 37 points after eight wins in their last 12 fixtures.

  • Safety & a top 10 finish on the line

Crystal Palace and Newcastle head into the upcoming fixture on the same amount of points, with the latter missing out on The Eagles' 13th position by a significant goal difference.

Both teams will eliminate any lingering fears of relegation in this round of Premier League games with a victory, while Patrick Vieira and Eddie Howe may also be targeting a finish in the top 10.

A 12 point gap sits between the clubs and the dotted relegation line, but neither team will want to lose concentration, and the midweek clash signals a close affair in terms of quality and league position.

Certainly, whoever comes out on top will take the victory in their stride to show their fanbase and potential summer signings just how far the two sets of clubs have come in their season of transition.

The Eagles and The Magpies are taking massive leaps in their futures successes this year, and while the season may be over in terms of trophies and safety, momentum is key for their second season in vicissitude.

  • Team news

Crystal Palace will be boosted by their ability to select Conor Gallagher in Tyneside, with the influential midfielder being ineligible to play against his parentclub last time out at Wembley Stadium.

Odsonne Edouard could add freshness to Palace's attacks, and with Michael Olise earning valuable minutes at the weekend, there is a hope he can feature in a more important role against Newcastle.

The good news for Patrick Vieira is that there are no fresh injury concerns, so a strong lineup is to be expcted, despite the busy schedule.

As for Newcastle United, they don't have any fresh concerns either, but with Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy returning to contention, they could provide a different dimension to Howe's style of play.

Should Ryan Fraser be deemed fit, he would only make the substitutes bench. Nevertheless, Howe will be excited about the array of talent he has at his disposal.
