Arsenal's rollercoaster season will be displayed up close and personal in a six-episode documentary starting August 4

Amazon, like they did with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and others before, filmed Mikel Arteta and his team as they tackled every challenge that arose while experiencing the growing pains of a newly-assembled squad.

The Gunners' season had a story arc out of Hollywood: a dreadful start to the season followed by inspiring form, ups and downs and everything in between and a nail-biting ending.

Here are some key events we could be privileged to see in this documentary series.

A difficult start

It would not be far-fetched to assume that one of the first episodes focuses on Arsenal's dire start to the season.

The Gunners lost their first three league games, against BrentfordChelsea and Man City, and found themselves at the bottom of the table, yet to score a goal.

The All or Nothing teaser reveals a heart-to-heart between manager Arteta and his squad at this very moment. An emotional speech that was followed by a 10-game unbeaten streak, in which Arsenal defeated arch-rivals Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and Arteta received the 'Manager of the Month' award.

Expect COVID to be an undertone throughout the show too, which created a lot of uncertainty and rescheduled games for all clubs. Arsenal had to play their first fixture without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Willian due to contracting the virus, for example.

Aubameyang losing the captaincy

Arsenal fans will be eager to know what happened when their captain was excluded from the matchday squad and eventually removed as the club's captain in December 2021.

The club cited 'disciplinary reasons' for their decision but not much more is known about the drama that went on behind the scenes. Surely Amazon will tell us what really happened?

On a side note, it will be interesting to see who the real leaders of the team are too.

Hale End to the rescue

A highlight of the season was how Arsenal's younger, home-grown players stepped up in difficult moments.

Bukayo Saka was the club's top scorer last season, and Emile Smith Rowe's cameo turning into a star role halfway into the campaign was quite a sight.

An episode dedicated to Arsenal's Hale End academy and its history of successfully developing young players such as Cesc Fabregas, Jack WilshereEddie NketiahAshley ColeAinsley Maitland-Niles, Alex Iwobi, Tony Adams and many more would capture a big part of the club's identity.

The anti-knife crime collaboration

Arsenal removed all red from their shirts to symbolise their concern about rising knife crime in London when playing Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

The campaign was called 'No More Red', and the shirts were not put up for sale but instead awarded to people who made a positive difference in the community.

Togetherness

A common theme in the All or Nothing documentary could be how the newly-assembled team becomes closer on and off the pitch.

Since Arteta took charge at the Emirates, Arsenal have brought in 18 new players in six transfer windows, six of whom joined the club while Amazon was visiting.

There were a lot of moving pieces and to see the challenge of getting such a young squad on the same page with no room to fail would be fascinating.

The top four race

The 2021/22 season ended with an absolute bang and will give the documentary an epic finale.

With three games left, Arsenal were desperately holding onto fourth with nemesis Tottenham on their heels. Then the two teams faced off with everything to play for.

Arsenal conceded early and it got worse when Rob Holding was sent off in the 33rd minutes. Arsenal lost 3-0 but still had a chance to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League if they won their two remaining games.

No such luck as the Gunners, possibly shaken by the previous result, lost against Newcastle United, with Tottenham going on to take fourth place.

At least it was dramatic. Too soon?

Honourable mentions

  • Arteta and Jurgen Klopp's heated bust-up during Arsenal's visit to Anfield.
  • As another teaser revealed, Arteta prepared the squad for their away game against Liverpool by playing 'You Never Walk Alone' on speakers as they trained.
  • The lack of goalscoring and the club's failed pursuit of a striker in January, resulting in Nketiah taking his chance over out-of-form Lacazette.
  • Losing Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey at the end of the season. How did the coaching staff react to losing two key players?

Where and how to watch All or Nothing: Arsenal?

The 6-episode documentary will be show exclusively on Amazon Prime Video under their subscription scheme.

Three episodes will be released in one bundle on Thursday August 4, with a further trio coming out a week later, before the final three are released on Thursday August 18.
