In a frantic end-to-end encounter at Goodison Park, the points were shared as Liverpool could not find a way past Jordan Pickford.
It could have ended 3-3, with both goalkeepers on top form and both sides hitting the woodwork.
Liverpool have now dropped nine points from a possible 18, with their pattern of poor performances becoming a common theme.
Here is how the players fared in the Merseyside derby:
-
Everton:
Made some magnificent saves to salvage a draw for the Toffees. He tipped Darwin Nunez's volley onto the bar and made a flurry of saves to deny Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.
It was a commanding performance from the Scotsman and he did very well to keep Luis Diaz at bay. He nearly scored in the second half but his effort was blocked.
Connor Coady- 7
The former Liverpool man had a derby debut to be proud of as he bossed the Everton backline and looked a natural leader. He thought he had poked Everton in front but his effort was disallowed for offside.
Looked comfortable next to his defensive partner and did well to nullify Diaz and Nunez. Was dominant in the air and looked a threat from set pieces.
Did a good job of keeping Salah quiet and looked defensively sound.
Tom Davies- 7
Went close to breaking the deadlock when he was denied by the woodwork in the first half. Was a good performance in the middle of the park.
Amadou Onana- 7
Was a promising display from the young Belgian and was excellent in protecting the Everton backline. Booked
Alex Iwobi- 8
Did well to drive Everton up the pitch and looked energetic throughout. However, he lacked quality in the final third.
Demarai Gray- 7
Provided a constant threat on the counter attack but like Iwobi his final ball could have been better.
His work rate was unmatched with the winger sprinting up and down the pitch and getting stuck in. Was lucky to escape a booking.
Neil Maupay- 6
Nearly scored in the second half but he was denied by an Alisson block. Was unlucky to not get an assist with Connor Coady's effort being ruled offside.
Idrissa Gueye- 7
Was a bright cameo off the bench to mark his return to the club.
Dwight McNeil- N/A
Denied Gordon in the first half and expertly blocked Maupay's effort in the second. Did well to keep out McNeil's deflected strike late on.
Trent Alexander- Arnold- 5
Made some sloppy passes and lacked threat going forward. Subbed
Joe Gomez- 8
Was an assured and composed performance from Gomez. Despite Joel Matip's return from injury, the 25-year-old should keep his place next to Virgil van Dijk for the foreseeable future
Was dominant in the air and made a crucial block on Patterson. Booked for a bad challenge on Onana.
Kostas Tsimikas- 7
Provided a constant threat going forward and nearly scored from close range. Was unlucky to be subbed.
Fabinho- 6
Did well in breaking up play and made some good passes. Had his low strike saved by Pickford. Booked
Looked bright going forward and combined well with Mohammed Salah in the first half. He looked less effective however when moved to a deeper role. Subbed
Struggled to replicate his performance on Wednesday and couldn't make an impact on the game. Subbed at half time after picking up a knock.
Mohamed Salah- 5
Was kept quiet and wasn't at his usual brilliant best. Nearly won it right at the end
Darwin Nunez- 6
Had a venomous strike saved by Pickford and went close again in the second half. Subbed
Luis Diaz- 6
Was denied by the woodwork before the interval and created Salah's chance late on. Looked energetic throughout.
Roberto Firmino- 7
Changed the tide of the game when subbed on and unsettled Everton's back line. Was denied by Pickford three times.
Andy Robertson- 5
Was an unnecessary sub and could not make an impact on the game.
James Milner- 4
Gordon and Maupay had plenty of joy down his flank and he struggled to create anything going forward. Was later moved to midfield.
Diogo Jota- 5
Could tell he was just returning from injury. Looked a bit rusty.
Joel Matip- 5
Played a poor pass at the end when Liverpool were searching for a winner.
