Cambridge United ended a five-match losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Harvey Knibbs put the U's in front after just seven minutes, finishing into the far corner, but the Chairboys levelled through Sam Vokes 10 minutes from halftime.

Jack Lankester restored the visitors' lead in first-half stoppage time and Cambridge doubled their lead on a tap-in by Lloyd Jones.

Lewis Wing got one back in second-half stoppage time, but the U's hung on for their first win away to Wycombe since 2001.

Story of the match

Cambridge manager Mark Bonner made four changes from the side were defeated by Port Vale at the weekend, as Fejiri Okenabirhie was handed his first league start while Ibsen Rossi, Joe Ironside, and Lewis Simper came in for Greg Taylor, Liam O'Neil, Shilow Tracey and Sam Smith.

The U's got off to a dream start when Knibbs latched on to Ironside's headed knockdown and finished low past Wycombe goalkeeper Max Stryjek.

Vokes thought he had levelled minutes later, but the former Wolves striker was whistled for a foul on George Williams.

Wycombe went close twice more on 18 minutes as Anis Mehmeti hit the post from the edge of the box and Garath McCleary fired over on the rebound.

Four minutes later, Cambridge should have doubled their lead as Knibbs won the ball high up the pitch, got forward and played it to Ironside, who went wide of the post after taking a touch.

The hosts littered the U's box with several crosses and they capitalized in the 35th minute when Vokes headed home from a corner.

Just before halftime, the Chairboys appealed for a penalty, which was turned down and Cambridge broke the other way, Lankester curling home from 20 yards away.

The beginning moments of the second half saw the visitors nearly restore their two-goal advantage, Ironside played in by Knibbs, but after getting the ball out from under his feet, the striker blazed wide.

Simper then forced Stryjek into a fine save with a strike from distance as he looked for a second goal in as many matches.

Lankester then created Cambridge's best chance of the match, squaring for Ironside, but his shot lacked any real conviction.

Jones opened his U's account 13 minutes from time as he ghosted to the back post to volley home Simper's corner.
