Jeff King's low free kick on eight minutes was all that stood between the sides at the break, and despite York livening into the game towards the end of the half, they trailed after 45 minutes.

After ages of trying for an equalizer, Mitch Hancox finally found what City were looking for, with an exquisite first-time finish, twelve minutes from time.

York boss John Askey made two changes to the side that was beaten by Aldershot at the weekend, with the suspended Alex Hurst making way for winger Luke James. Key midfielder Olly Dyson returned from injury, as Mitch Hancox dropped to the bench.

Chesterfield also confirmed two changes following their 3-2 win over Bromley, as Akwasi Asante and Jez Uchegbulam replaced Armando Dobra and Liam Mandeville.

A clumsy challenge on the edge of the box left York in a vulnerable position, as they were made to watch Jeff King's exquisite set-piece curl through the City wall and into the bottom corner, putting the Spireites a goal up, after only nine minutes.

The Visitors' top scorer King almost found the back of the net again, trying an audacious swinging effort from the right, which just narrowly evaded Ethan Ross' far post.

Chesterfield's quality throughout the first 25 minutes was the clear difference between the two sides, mainly the constant production of opportunities - one saw Asante hit an awkwardly bouncing ball wide, before a long spell in and around the penalty area led to King looping one inches over the bar from distance.

Silky winger Maziar Kouhyar was the creator of York's first chance in the game. After cutting in from the left, he unleashed a fierce driven shot, which came close, but just flashed past the far post.

City livened up towards the end of the first half, as a ball over the top found Dyson, and in an attempt to round the 'keeper, tested Ross Fitzsimons to block out for a corner, and that too couldn't be converted, Maxim Kouogun unable to keep his header down.

The second half began in Chesterfield's favour, with Ollie Banks latching onto a cross, but from point-blanc range, managed to head it over.

York's Dyson then tried his luck from 25 yards, but could only watch his effort sail well over.

Ten minutes into the half, King drove a smart ball into the box, in the hope that one of the many blue shirts waiting could connect, but frustratingly, it missed everyone and rolled out of play.

Kouhyar was next to go for goal down the other end, as his free kick from an angle was an easy catch for Fitzsimons, and similarly was his strike from outside the box.

Twelve minutes from time, the Minstermen found themselves deservedly level through Mitch Hancox. Alex Whittle's low ball into the area was ran onto by the vice-captain, who finished it off with a first-time hit to level the game.

Desperate for a late winner, City came agonizingly close, with the Spireites 'keeper stopping Fallowfield's close range effort, before a corner saw a scramble in the box eventually cleared.

Then Manny Duku broke forward deep into injury time, and went for the spectacular, as he cut inside and curled towards the top corner, only denied by Fitzsimons' punch, which was the final action of the match.
