Second half goals from Mo Salah and Hwang Hee-Chan were enough to ensure a thrilling game was taken to an FA Cup Replay.

Alisson Becker's nightmare gave Wolves the lead within 20 minutes however Darwin Nunez levelled the game up with a fantastic finish seconds before half time, following a world class cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Mo Salah then put Liverpool ahead in the second half but their one goal advantage was short lived as Hwang Hee-Chan equalized quickly after.

They did not stop there though as in the 84th minute Toti scored what thought he was the winner but after consultation with VAR it was disallowed for offside, despite no cameras picking up the incident.

Julen Lopetegui is definitely the Manager with a bigger smile on his face leaving Anfield

Before we reignite this fixture in the replay, what did we learn from last night's game?

  • All goalkeepers make mistakes

Alisson Becker has been one of Jurgen Klopp's most reliable players since his arrival in 2018. He was a key figure in his side's Champions League and Premier League success.

One of his many commendable aspects has always been his distribution. However, his ball playing ability has been slightly tarnished tonight.

For all Liverpool's hard work, a lapse in concentration from the home goalkeeper was a tug on the thread that almost unraveled It all.

The Reds struggled to contend with Wolves' pressure early on, with Joel Matip almost putting the ball in his own goal after a loose ball, but a costlier mistake came when Alisson Becker had a howler. The Brazilian stopper went to play the ball out but passed it straight into the path of Guedes who smashed his side into the lead.

While it may have taken spectators by surprise, Liverpool's number one is not the only keeper to make a crucial mistake this weekend. Manchester United's David De Gea was at fault on Friday night as well when Neil Maupay's cross slipped between his legs and into the path of Merseyside man, Conor Coady, who was left with an easy finish.

The goalkeeper's union will tell you this is the reason keepers have the toughest job on the field. A simple mistake made by several others, on a number of occasions, has costly impacts.

  • Nunez puts things right

The Uruguay international made Merseyside his home in the summer of 2022, where he joined The Reds for 85 million pounds from Portuguese club, Benfica , where he scored 32 times in just 57 appearances.

The 23-year-old has had his fair share of criticism this season, after being wasteful with his chances. Darwin Nunez has become a scapegoat for rival fans to target and his offside goal against Brentford on Monday night would have certainly put a smile on many faces.

He has only managed to score nine goals in 22 fixtures for his new club, definitely showing a different side of himself compared to what fans saw from his time in Portugal.

He has failed to score for his side since his brace against Southampton, which came before the World Cup break, but last night he made his debut in the FA Cup

On the verge of half time, Nunez latched onto a perfect cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold and finished as cool as you'd like with a side footed volley into the bottom right corner.

The star man's Celebration told the whole story. It was as if all his doubt and frustration all came out together as pointed to his head, suggesting he knows what he's doing and will continue to do that.

Jurgen Klopp will hope this is the beginning of the Darwin Nunez era.

The Spaniard took over from Bruno Lage's reign on November 5th, joining from Sevilla. However, Real Madrid is also a name which comes under his CV, where he was manager in 2018.

His competitive debut came just three weeks ago against Gillingham in the Caraboa Cup, where he secured a confident 2-0 victory. Since then, he has gone on to play four more fixtures, with his only loss occurring against Manchester United on New Year's Day after a late Marcus Rashford strike.

A draw last night, victory at Goodison park, and a point away at Aston Villa has definitely fired him up the Premier League manager rankings as well as having the upmost respect from Wolves' supporters.

Julen Lopetegui has already made two trips to Merseyside since Christmas, and on both occasions he has left as the happier manager, especially tonight.

Although he will be disappointed his side couldn't snatch victory late on. In the 84th minute Toti flicked the ball backwards into the hosts net but a controversial VAR decision ruled his goal out for offside.

Lopetegui and his coaching staff were certain the goal was not offside, however no one will ever know for definite as VAR didn't have a clear view and therefore had to settle with the on field descision.

The 56 year old will be confident sending his side to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night after tonight's impressive display.

  • Wolves need to focus on attack

New manager, Julen Lopetegui, will be keen to make sure his side gets up and scoring. Despite scoring twice last night, both goals had luck involved, something no team wants to rely on.

Wolves have struggled to score goals this season and have ultimately relied on their defence to secure them their points. They have only scored 11 goals in this current league campaign, averaging out at a 0.61 goal to game ratio.

However since the arrival of Lopetegui, they have scored seven goals in five games, showing a significant improvement from Bruno Lage's Wolves side.

Their attacking structure has been an issue for more than just one league campaign. Last season was the same story as they finished on 38 goals in the league. Only Norwich, Burnley and Watford scored less, and these three teams went on to be relegated to the Championship.

Wanderers also have plenty of attacking options. They signed Diego Costa last summer adding to Raul Jimenez, two experienced strikers who can both find the net. Diego Costa has proved his goal scoring ability at the top level with both Chelsea and Athletico Madrid therefore Lopetegui will be hoping Costa can re find his younger self.
