Rennes stretched their run of league games without a win to eight after having to score an equaliser away to Bordeaux.

With their first proper chance of the match, the hosts managed to go in front through Jérémy Ménez.

However, this was to be cancelled out later on in the second half when Yoann Gourcuff headed in the leveller.

A debut was handed to new Rennes recruit Morgan Amalfitano who had a promising first half but was unable to shine in the second.

Quiet first period but Rennes dominate possession

Amalfitano almost started his Rennes career the best way possible when his 23rd-minute strike forced Cédric Carrasso to make a smart low save.

Just before the break, Rennes had another fantastic opportunity to go ahead when Giovanni Sio rounded Carrasso but was unable to finish from an acute angle.

Rennes wasteful and Bordeaux take their chance

The hosts took the lead after 56 minutes when a lovely low cross along the box was diverted into the net by Ménez.

The former PSG and Milan attacker placed the ball through the legs of the onrushing Benoit Costil from close range.

An immediate response was almost found by Rennes when Gourcuff was unable to keep his shot low from the centre of the box following an effective counter-attack.

The veteran attacking midfielder eventually got his goal in the 69th minute when he met Ludovic Baal's cross at the near post to head past Carrasso.

Either side will be ruing missed opportunities to win the game with Gaëtan Laborde hitting the side netting, while Sio was unable to score a header from point-blank range.

Bordeaux and Rennes place seventh and ninth respectively with only two points separating the two - a win would have done nicely for either side in this fixture.
