The match of today was really important for Glasgow Rangers and coach McCoist because it was the first time they were playing without Jelavic after that he signed for Everton last week. Coach McCoist admitted the previous days that he knows that from now it’s a fact that the welfare of the club is the most important thing but he was so sure that the players he has at the moment can get great results and aim to win the cup and the Scottish Premier League. After the horrible performance of today the first aim has been lost and Rangers has to be really worries about the way they have played today.

At the beginning it looked like Mervan started on the right hand side with Aluko playing just off Healy. Papac was selected as left midfield. The first opportunity was for Rangers at the '8 with Sone Aluko.  After that Dundee United started to show good football: a shot from Dixon has Allan McGregor worried and the Scotland number one tipped the shot round the post with an excellent save. The goal for Dundee was in the atmosphere and in fact they scored at the ’15. There was a cross by Gary Mackay-Steven with a headed goal by Gavin Gunning (top-left of goal) from centre of penalty area (6 yards).Great the assist by Gary Mackay-Steven from right wing. The Rangers tried to react and at the '17 Magnificent play from Sone Aluko that Turning the defence left then right, was able to shot with a brilliant save by Pernis. Few minutes later Rangers had another excellent chance with Healy as his shot from the corner of the box was tipped around the post by Pernis. At the '30 there was the second corner of the match whipped in by Sone Aluko has the United defence worried, but a head just could not get on the end of it. During the best moment of the game for Rangers it arrived the second goal for Dundee: at the '34 Johnny Russell made it 2:0 to Dundee United after some poor defending from Rangers. His left-footed (high centre of goal) was shot from the centre of penalty area (12 yards) with a good assist (pass) by Paul Dixon from left wing. The rangers were shocked and took some minutes to start again to attack. At the '41 there was the last chance for Rangers to score when Bartley tried to shot after Davis chipped the ball beyond the United defence, but he couldn't get enough power on it.

At the halfime Glasgow Rangers was down by two goals, scored by Gunning ('15) and Russell ('34) and everybody at the stadium was expecting much more in the second half.

Immediately coach McCoist did a halftime change as Mervan was replaced by Salim Kerkar for the start of the second period. Salim Kerkar started to play up front alongside Healy, with Aluko moving to right midfield. After ten minutes of the second half gone, Dundee United was still 2 goals up and Rangers had not created anything dangerous for the defenders of Dundee.

Dundee showed a good touch keeping the ball and avoiding to attack but just definding the result and being ready to take any opportunity in case Rangers defenders came into the opposite box. At the ‘70 the first chance  for Rangers to score in the second hald fell for Little at the front post after Aluko managed to dig the ball into the six yard box, but he could not get it on target.

Few minutes after the match was suspended as Gavin Gunning and Andy Little clashed heads. Both players were later up and off the field receiving treatment.

With the match going to the conclusion and the Rangers unable to create any clear opportunity, the players of coach McCoist shoed their nervous behaviour due to the incapacity to score and the referee nedeed to book Goian, Edu Bartley and McGregor with the supporters really disappointed by their players.

Now the Rangers are also out from the Scottish Cup and they are making even more possible that Celtic could win all the titles available this season. The last days coach McCoist admitted that he believes Glasgow Rangers can win the league saying that losing Jelavic made it more difficult but he is faithful and they just need to go out and win the title without him. Of course the performance of today is not acceptable and everybody that was at Ibrox could realize that if Rangers keeps playing like that, winning the title will be just something that can be dreamt. At the moment Rangers needs to get back as soon as possible players like Naismith and Lafferty from their injuries because the performance of David Healy was not sufficient even if he admitted the day before the match that he could fill the void at Rangers left by the departure of top goalscorer Nikica Jelavic ( moved to Everton for £5.5m and contributing with 17 goals before leaving Ibrox ). At the moment the future is grey for Glasgow Rangers, the players the performance showed is absolutely not conform with the value of the club and it is really clear that the club is focusing in other aspects because they need the money to go ahead.
