Reports suggest that Nottingham Forest are currently in prime position to snap up Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old is out of contract at Ewood Park at the end of the month and could become Mark Warburton's first signing as Forest boss if they can agree on a deal.

Exciting young prospect

Despite their relegation to League One on the final day of The Championship season, Mahoney was one of the shining lights in a dismal campaign for Rovers. He joined the club from Accrington Stanley in 2013 and only made 21 appearances last season, but has still made a big impression.

He would certainly suit the style of play that Warburton has started to implement at The City Ground and his skill could add much needed creativity to the Forest side. The Reds do have a lack of natural wingers with many believing Ben Osborn is more effective when utilised in a central role.

There is no doubt that Forest would be a good place for Mahoney to continue his development as he would be heavily involved in the first team and get plenty of minutes under his belt. He is a player who is tipped to have a future in the Premier League, meaning his next move will be a vital one.

Rovers resigned to losing their star asset

Blackburn do seem resigned to losing him and must now begin the search for a replacement as they seek progression following years out of the top flight.
