Bolton Wanderers have announced that Neil Lennon will be their new manager after Dougie Freedman's departure.

Lennon who was without a job since this summer takes over the club ahead of their fixture away to Birmingham this weekend.

The Northern Irishman, 43, had a successful four year spell at the helm at Celtic where he won three league titles and two domestic cups as well as masterminding a famous win against Barcelona in the Champions league.

The Bolton job will come as a huge change to what Lennon is used to, with Bolton sitting at the foot of the Championship table with a mere five points from eleven games.

Lennon brings ex-celtic assistant Johan Mjallby with him to the Macron Stadium and will also be assisted by first team coach Garry Parker.

Lennon was just one of a number of "high calibre applicants" for the job a statement on the club website read although the club refused to comment who other applicants were.
