Neil Lennon is expecting the signing of veteran strikers Eidur Gudjohnsen and Emile Heskey to take place in the near future, as Bolton look to pull away from the relegation zone.

The duo, who have amassed 786 Premier League appearances between them, are both available on a costless transfer after leaving Club Brugge and Newcastle Jets respectively.

Gudjohnsen, a former Chelsea and Barcelona man, has been training with the Championship outfit for over a month now, and completed 90 minutes for the U21 side on Monday. The Icelandic left the Macron Stadium 14-years ago after netting 27 times in 77 games for the club.

"If there are any hold-ups it will be a minor thing and I hope to have him [Gudjohnsen] in the squad for the weekend," stated Lennon.

"I think he'll be a big-game player and enjoy the occasion. It will take him a little bit of time to adjust to the Championship and the quality of player he's used to playing with.”

Meanwhile, Heskey also joined the ranks at the Euxton based training complex and reportedly left Australia to pursue a move to an English team. The former England international was linked with Leicester City but the rumor was firmly dismissed by Foxes boss Nigel Pearson. The forward won two League Cups with Leicester, playing alongside Lennon for numerous years.

"Emile is a costless agent and I know him very well from my time at Leicester - another player that we tried to sign in our time at Celtic,” proclaimed the Scot.

"He maybe coming to the end of his career but he still has good attributes. We're going to have a look at him over the next two weeks and see if he's got something to offer."

Wanderers are hovering dangerously above the bottom three, but have been resurgent following the appointment of Lennon. The Trotters have mustered up 16 points out of a possible 24 since the ex-Celtic midfielders arrival.

However, the club are now looking at attacking reinforcements after the out of favour Jermaine Beckford was jettisoned to Preston on loan. Top scorer Mark Davis has ruled out for up to four months with a knee injury while Chung Yong-Lee is likely to represent South Korea in the Asian Cup this January.
